The youngest student ever admitted to the drama department at Juilliard, Kilmer made his feature debut in the comedy Top Secret!, which he followed up with Real Genius and his breakout role as the Iceman in Tony Scott’s Top Gun, opposite Tom Cruise.

Kilmer’s films also include Oliver Stone’s Alexander, Renny Harlin’s Mindhunters, the animated feature Delgo, Ron Howard’s The Missing and Wonderland. Kilmer most recently starred in MacGruber, a comedy based on the SNL spoof sketch of ‘MacGyver’.
OK, but just to me, Doc Holiday in Tombstone was just the role.
The youngest student ever admitted to the drama department at Juilliard
For over 40 years Val Kilmer, one of Hollywood’s most mercurial and/or misunderstood actors has been documenting his own life and craft through film and video. He has amassed thousands of hours of footage, from 16mm home movies made with his brothers, to time spent in iconic roles for blockbuster movies like Top Gun, The Doors, Tombstone, and Batman Forever. This raw, wildly original and unflinching documentary reveals a life lived to extremes and a heart-filled, sometimes hilarious look at what it means to be an artist and a complex man.
Personally, I think his Batman was the best out of the 90’s Batman live-action films. At least he looked physically fit unlike poor Michael and George lol.
Love all his movies even, Top Secret. My favorite was Real Genius.
Seemed like a good man.
RIP Madmartigan aka Val Kilmer, the greatest swordsman who ever lived! You never know how special someone was until they are gone. I never know who I’m really gonna remember and some greats, just not as much. Val was the first to use a southern accent for Doc Holiday. In the film HEAT, the army shows Kilmer doing a magazine reload and he was an innovator in that regard as well. They use his gunfight as an example in military training, some say. That is really something. Shows what an actor can do to be influential.
Story by George Lucas
Directed by Ron Howard
Industrial Light & Magic created the visual effects and animation sequences, which led to a revolutionary breakthrough with digital morphing technology. How much of a genius was George Lucas that a lot of his effects we now take for granted in the age of A.I.? I’ve seen those morphing videos using AI on youtube and didn’t realize that was a George Lucas thing. Makes me wish George Lucas and James Cameron could have teamed up in their prime. Doesn’t really matter, as their work will last regardless.
