Priest defiant after bishop rebukes him for condemning ‘lunatic’ transgenderism in homily
A Roman Catholic priest in Ireland was publicly rebuked by his bishop for a homily over the weekend that condemned abortion, homosexuality, transgender behavior and contraception as sinful.
That is part of his job!
“What is so sad today is you rarely hear about sin, but it’s rampant,” said Sheehy. “It’s rampant.”
“We see it, for example, in the legislation of our governments,” Sheehy continued. “We see it in the promotion of abortion. We see it in the example of this lunatic approach of transgenderism. We see it, for example, in the promotion of sex between two men and two women.”
True.
“That is sinful, that is mortal sin. And people don’t seem to realize it, but it’s a fact, it’s a reality,” the priest added. He also spoke out against the Irish government for distributing condoms to teenagers, saying it promotes sexual promiscuity.
True too.
Bishop of Kerry Ray Browne, who did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment, later apologized to those who were put off by Sheehy’s “offending” homily and maintained that the views he expressed in it are not “the Christian position.”
And that is part of the current “trying to please the current masses” problem facing many churches/ denominations.
“As the old saying is, the truth hurts, but it sets us free,” (Sheehy) said. “Jesus, for example, did not come to make people feel good. He came to save people from their sins, and that was actually the gospel of the Sunday. He said he came to seek and save what was lost; in other words, those people who are lost in sin.”
Love the sinner, but HATE the sin.
“And why are people lost in sin? Sometimes they don’t even realize that what they’re doing is a sin. So that’s where the church’s responsibility kicks in, because the church has a responsibility to identify what is sin or what isn’t, so people will know what they’re choosing freely,” Sheehy continued.
Alot are now more concerned out getting as many people into the seats, and not talk about hard truths, not about saving people’s souls for eternal life.
Regarding the rebuke from his bishop, who barred him from performing Mass until O’Connor returns, Sheehy said he “couldn’t care less, really.” He claimed the bishop is “muzzling the truth in order to appease people,” and advised him to familiarize himself with the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
“I know myself what I said cannot be disproven by any honest-to-God Christian or Catholic teaching, and that’s the bottom line,” Sheehy added.
Sadly, too many are now rejoicing in SIN, and trying to demonize those who speak God’s words against SIN. Satan must be smiling.
As a Roman Catholic I find this disgusting. God’s morality does not change with the times. It does not go along with what is popular. If it did, it would be false and useless.
With that said, unfortunately, to many the Catholic Church is a business. There are clergy that wish not to criticize so that the faith is more popular so the cash keeps rolling in. At least that is my suspicion. Then you also have an internal faction trying to affect change attempting to corrupt the Church. Again, my summation.
At this point in my life I distrust much of the Church. Why? Because the organization is separate from the faith. The core of the faith was created by God. The organization is man made and therefore susceptible to corruption because people are weak and fallible.
To those reading this and scoffing at the faith because it says many things are sinful, understand this. To be a Catholic or Christian is not to be perfect or claim to be perfect. In fact, the very core of the faith is to admit you are imperfect and that you sin often. The importance in realizing this is you come to God asking for forgiveness and striving to do better after you fall.
This is an important distinction to make. God does not hate gay, transgender or folks whom have had an abortion. He loves them as much as everyone else. He just wants you to come to him, admit your sins so he can forgive you and for you to strive to be better. So it is not a sin to exist as a gay person or a transgender person or someone whom has even had an abortion. The sin is in the actions you choose. As mentioned by Legatus_Legionis, hate the sin not the sinner.
I’m not religious in any way shape or form, but i have nothing but respect for other’s beliefs
I won’t refreighn from giving my thoughts though
Personally i think going too much to any extream is not healthy for society, not to shove abortion, homosexuality, and transgender down people’s throats and indoctronating kids, nor calling them sins, for me the only sinful act one could possibly do is that of hurting others and especially hurting children
If you’re gay and you’re just living your life with your loved one not hurting anyone, that’s not a sin in my book
If your trans and you’re living your life not hurting anyone, that’s not a sin in my book, it might be a bit more complicated in terms of possibly hurting yourself, if a transition goes wrong or if a transition is regretted, but if you’re an adult and are willing to take the risk, and no one’s influenced you in doing so, fair enough
Abortion, i think should only be used if giving birth will be a risk to the child or mother, which is why we have contraception, so dumbdumbs and horndogs don’t go to drastic mesures in a panic ’cause of not wanting/being ready for kids
I grew up Christian, though I am not a “practicing” person I still hold some of those values.
I find any and all attacks on priests, pastor’s or preachers who are speaking the real gospel despicable. Not the watered down, modernized, fake version. If people who go to church find it offensive that a Priest would speak out about Homosexuality, then they might want to read their bible. The bible even mentions that in the end times they words of god will be changed and or messed with to fit a modern narrative. The bible essentially predicted Identity Politics. The First Beast is essentially that, Revelation 13:1-18. Prophecy fulfilled heh?
Just speaking the Bible here, but sins against oneself are still sins. So even if you are not hurting someone else you can still transgress God’s will for you. Now of course a discussion could be had about whether it is a worse sin to harm someone else but at the end of the day all sin separates us from God.
The Bible (as I am sure you are aware) predicts many things. This one, given what’s going on in the world, gives me chills. And not the good kind.
“It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, 17so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.”
Good discussion here in my opinion. Anytime folks speak of God it is a good thing.
Just speaking the Bible here, but sins against oneself are still sins
Which is why i said that being trans can be complicated, if all goes well great, but given it’s something that involves surgeries and medication with irreversable effects it’s no where near free of risk, so if something goes wrong you could end up way more hurt than you initially were
Actually, Biblically speaking it is not at all complicated. God made you the gender/sex he wanted you. To attempt to alter that is to pronounce that God was incorrect. Not to mention all you are doing is looking more like the other sex as it does not transform you into it. So it equates to self mutilation which is just self harm.
I am not trying to tell anyone that’s the way they need to see it, anyone is free to see how they wish but from a Bible standpoint that is pretty much the deal as I understand it.
At the end of the day trans folks are God’s children like any of us are.
What gender did god make these people? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Complete_androgen_insensitivity_syndrome
God makes people the way he wants them. This does not mean we are all the exact same and that there are never any crosses to bare. We all have them.
Come on, that’s a non-answer. Let’s not be like Dems here
It’s a perfect answer because it is what is. I don’t personally need to have the answer to every question in the universe to have faith in God. If that is what you are waiting for then you will be waiting from here to eternity.
God create man and woman, the male and the female, the masculine and the feminine, with a soul and free will. FULL STOP!
God told us how to live (and gain eternal life), and allowed us to use our free will to chose if we do so or not.
It is the job of the priests and bishops, etc to teach and remind people of that, and to show them God’s Will.
This priest is doing his job, God’s appointed job. Sadly most are now too afraid to do so.
And Jesus’ message to all has been to Love the sinner, hate the sin, for they have forgotten/are ignoring God’s Will.
God will be the final judge on how we all lived our lives.
“It is the job of the priests and bishops, etc to teach and remind people of that, and to show them God’s Will.”
I agree with everything you said except for this (but it’s just semantics). I believe it is the job of every human to seek God. We are all the captain’s of our souls. No one else. Not a priest, pastor or holy person. Such folks are there to help and assist but at the end of the day the free will is ours to use as we see fit. In other words, it is up to us to decide not only how to live our lives each day but how we should have a relationship with God.
Clearly, that is all very much just my opinion.
I never said OTHERS can’t teach and remind people of what is right from wrong.
I stated it is the MAIN job of the priests and bishops.
What does a priest do? The basic work of a priest is to proclaim the Word of God.
They also:
…administering the church’s seven sacraments: baptism, confirmation, confession, holy communion, marriage, holy orders, and anointing of the sick.
Did this priest do his duty? YES.
And the Bishop who rebuked him? No.
