Hello. I’m not sure if anyone will take interest in this post, but the first chapter of Star Wars: The High Republic Light of the Jedi was shown on the writer’s twitter by the name of Charles Soule. He has written other books and comics in his life such as Undiscovered Country, a set of Darth Vader comics that take place directly after Revenge of the Sith, as well as Daredevil, Death of Wolverine, She-Hulk,The Rise of Kylo Ren, and Curse Words. I have read through his Darth Vader, The Rise of Kylo Ren and issue #1 of Undiscovered Country for it is his current project. The Darth Vader books he has written are great and the Rise of Kylo Ren I would say is decent at best, and honestly would have made The Last Jedi a better movie if the stuff in the comics were shown (btw, it is the worst Star Wars movie ever they killed fucking Luke Skywalker). I haven’t kept up with Undiscovered Country as much as I should have, but I’m sure i’ll be looking into it again at a later time. As far as I’m aware, he hasn’t disrespected fans for not liking his projects over the years, so I will be giving the book a shot next year. I would just like to know how people feel about the first chapter of the book if they decided to check it out.

I read it. I talked about it on my YouTube live stream last night (*plug*). The short of it is that while I think his prose is decent I have major issues with the story.

    • The destruction of the ship in hyperspace as described by the first chapter apparently scatters debris across the ENTIRE galaxy. This is incredibly STUPID and doesn’t work within the known continuity of Star Wars (I guess it does now. *sigh*).
    • The setting is during the thousand-year rule of peace in the galaxy which limits the conflict of the story. Conflicts drive stories and without a compelling conflict, the story is suspect. Even if they have an ok story, would it really be worthy of Star Wars?
    • He has some early paragraphs filled with “telling and not showing” about the point of view character of the chapter. It’s a waste of information for someone who dies at the end of the chapter.
    • In a case of “many grains make a heap” the POV captain of the chapter is yet another woman in charge who is AMAZING at what she does and doesn’t fail.

I will probably read the book for the channel, but this chapter does not make me excited for The High Republic. This only further reinforces my thesis that Disney Star Wars is Bad Fan Fiction.

Anyway, thanks for bringing it up! I’m still happy to discuss / debate Star Wars anytime. Cheers!

I was thinking about reading the book and reviewing it on my channel

Yeah, its not good. I read it and made a video on my channel too. I’ve already got a lot of issues with this series. It is set too close to the films for them to be saying that the galaxy is unexplored and hyperspace lanes aren’t very well developed. Its set during a time where there were no Sith, so none of the Jedi vs. Sith stuff that lends itself to internal struggles between light and dark. The hyperspace incident described in the chapter doesn’t make sense for multiple reasons. Some because the writing describing the event is sloppy, and some because of the fact that space is absolutely massive, so debris from a ship (tiny in scope compared to the size of the galaxy) would probably have a better chance of not hitting an occupied planet in the galaxy than actually hitting one.

Kinda sucks that they chose an era of relative peace to make the next set of SW books during. You’ve got to rely on ships breaking up in hyperspace (in an accident that doesn’t really make sense) and sending debris out into space to drive the plot…

I’m interested in Star WARS, not Star Mistakes and Natural Disasters.

I wouldn’t waste the brain cells, time, or money on this dog shit they dare to call Star Wars.

The world will be all for the better when they fail to make any profit on this, forcing them to fire all the so called writers they’ve hired to pen this drivel. If they really cared about telling compelling stories they’d start the EU back up and return to the characters that everyone cared, not Avar “I’m the BESTEST of all the Jedi” Karen Kriss.

I have to agree the jedi guarded the republic for a thousand generations. Hell Yoda was 900 in return. This shit makes no sense.

Also in real lore when a ship exploded while in hyperspace the bits all came out more or less in a line. This explanation of the book shows they know less than shit about anything.
