Here is a video of the first three episodes of this series.

My thoughts on this series so far, after watching these first episodes…

So far, it’s very similar to what I remember of those early episodes of the original, and content from the first character trailers, but there is some new stuff, too, and at least one new character.

I think it did well in introducing the world and the characters. There are some little scenes they added that I thought showed a bit more of the characters: Yang scratching Zwei’s chin while taking with her father, Ruby trying to find a present for Yang but getting distracted by a weapon’s magazine (a magazine like in something you read), Ozpin and Tai briefly talking after Ozpin offers Ruby at place at Beacon. Several characters who don’t appear until later in the original show up early here, and with good effect. The interactions between Weiss and her family make her reasons for wanting to go to a school so far away more understandable.

Penny being more robotic actually works well. It’s like she’s on this side of the slope out of the uncanny value, but not quite completely out yet.

The artwork and animation are top notch, very well done.

The new stuff is intriguing, it succeeded in getting my curiosity.

    And some gripes:

I don’t think their Torchwick is quite as interesting yet as the original. Maybe it’s a translation thing, but I didn’t get the same wit and sarcasm from the new version as from the old. To be fair, the original set a very high bar. Torchwick was one of the big strengths of the original series early on.

A couple of things do bug me some. I wish they had done more with Jaune’s nightmare (this is something new, you’ll have to watch the episodes to understand it, ’cause I’m trying to not spoil anything here), I think it was a good chance to do more with his character, to show his reasons for being there; it’s hinted at, but that’s about it. The other is the fight at the dock. I remembered it being a big scene early on in the original, and they built up to here, and…they didn’t show much of it. Almost none of it, in fact. There weren’t even any gun-chuks, at least not yet.

Overall impression:: mostly positive, with a few gripes.
