Apologies for bringing a personal matter to the table here but I don’t know where else to go where I might get objectivity instead of judgement and I hope that it might help anyone else facing a similar dilemma.

So my wife’s B-day is coming up on the 8th of August. She has planned a 3 day excursion to Walt Disney World during the week prior as we are annual pass holders and she wants to go somewhere and relax. I don’t blame her, she totally has earned that. I, however, have been and am vehemently anti-mask; while she is willing to wear it if she has to. I’ve been severely struggling with this because I want to support her on her B-day, but my own conscience is completely against the idea of putting a mask on for any length of time…

Up until this morning I was willing to compromise because I was at least able to get a mask that would be comfortable and allow me to breathe (I have asthma) because it has filters and valves. Now Disney has banned all masks with valves with no exception…

Does it make me a hypocrite if I do wear a mask for those three days? Am I selfish if I chose not to and don’t go with her? Are there any middle ground options that I’m missing? I’m really perplexed and stressed about how to deal with this situation as I want her to enjoy her vacation and don’t want to upset her, but every fiber in my being is on fire because I am so against putting a mask on…

I would contact Disney and explain the problem that you have asthma and what alternatives/exemptions that they allow before you go cancelling anything. You won’t be the only person in your situation going to the park, and I would think a company like Disney have sorted problems like this out.   I’m in the UK, you can also buy face shields like one in the photo, and ones that attach to a baseball cap, which I know aren’t very pretty, but may solve your problem. I hope this has been has help to you and please post how you get on.

Hi @lavosslayer, i hate being forced to wear mask too, unfortunately buisnesses, big and small, have no choice but to impose these “regulations” ’cause thay’ll get fined pretty hevily if they don’t, sure, there’ll be those crazy SJWs virtue signalling on wearing mask, but most of the employees in shops i’ve been to during bug season are only concerened with not loosing more money then they already have.

On it being hypocritical to wear a mask when you don’t agree with it, the morality of that’s kinda complicated, on the one hand you don’t want to do something that goes against your values, but on the other sometimes you have to see the bigger picture, way the pros and cons, is it worth it to rebel against waering a mask now, risking to get both you and disney world employees fined, or is it better to just play along and enjoy your wife’s birthday the best you can?

This bug season’s like a war, there’s a time and place to fight, and there’s a time and place to stand down, remember, standing down doesn’t mean surrendering ;)

Tips on dealimg with wearing a mask and not hyperventilating: i just pretend i’m Spider-man, if he can fight bad guys in a mask and still breath, pretty sure i can walk around a shopping center an hour or 2 masked up and be fine :D Also, you’re gonna have to eat while your there, and i’m pretty sure the mask has to come off for that, so take regular snack/breathing breaks

Hope this advice helps, and wish your wife a very happy birthday 🎂

That’s a tough one.  Luckily our boss has us social distancing because we have a few asthma stricken co-workers that can’t stand these masks for very long in the heat.   I’d go so that your wife gets some fun and relaxing but maybe don’t stay very long each day.  Explain to her that you can’t breathe well in the masks.  Try to shorten your time there since you have passes and can go more when things improve.  We can’t have you passing out!!  She loves you… she’ll understand the shorter time spent at the park.   See if you can throw in something romantic while not at the park.

Hopefully the vaccine will be out by December.  I miss normal life!!

This is a personal decision that you’re going to have to make, based on how strongly you feel about it.

My cousin visited not long ago, before the full-blow mandatory masking edicts, but after businesses started to require them. We went out all over the place. I refused to wear a mask except for one location. We had already paid for our tickets, before learning that we had to wear a mask. I was able to get away with pulling the mask under my chin for almost the entire visit, which is the only reason I stuck around. If I had known about the mask bs, I would never have gone.

Personally, I wouldn’t go. I won’t give my money to a business that so blatantly violates my rights. They won’t let you wear a mask with a valve? That makes NO SENSE whatsoever, beyond wearing a mask at all. Plus they’re stealing your biodata by taking your temperature. Your body temperature is none of their business. There is all sorts of wrong with submitting to these policies. My advice is that for your wife’s birthday, do something special for her. Something personal. That doesn’t require you to submit or contribute to this tyranny.

Ultimately, you have to decide for yourself though.

They do have a choice. It’s called Civil Disobedience and fighting back. I will never wear a mask in public. I’ve been out 4 times since these bullshit masking mandates were implemented and nobody has attempted to actively force me to wear one. I will go to jail first.

Masks/bandanas don’t stop infections diseases. Vaccines don’t do anything against disease (modern day snake oil). Social distancing is pure ignorance.

The primary vector of transmission for most, if not all, infectious diseases (including covid-19) is tactile contact. Touching people or things. Breathing the same air will not infect you. Standing 6 feet apart will not protect you. Unless you walk up to someone and cough directly into their face, you’re not going to infect someone. You can stand 6 feet apart all day and still (and far more likely) infect someone by using the same water fountain, by opening the same door, by using the same computer, etc., etc., etc.

Covid-19 is also not a doomsday death virus. Being sick sucks, regardless of what disease it is. A LARGE majority of cv19 infected don’t even know they’re infected (asymptomatic). The vast majority never experience serious symptoms. The ones that do experience serious symptoms have a good chance of recovery with proper medical care. The MSM cv19 numbers are made up bullshit and scare-mongering.

        #180832

Faceshields are just as ineffective in preventing the transmission of cv19 as these stupid masks.

I actually looked into this and their present official statement is “If you have a condition that would cause a complication with wearing a mask, stay home.”….No joke! lol

        #180836

I completely agree. I live in FL and the current infected numbers for the state, despite all of the hysteria and panic and paranoia are 433k with about 6k deaths…that translates to an amazing 99.9% recovery rate or .1% death rate….which is why this whole situation is all kinds of screwed up! That’s no different than the common cold…which is also (not surprisingly) a coronavirus…this entire situation is literally hysteria over the common cold…but because they report the numbers this year all of a sudden we are panicking like it’s the end of the world. Collapsing economies, destroying lives and businesses over something everyone gets at least once a year…

Keep on fighting your way @RebelSquadron. When i was in middle school we faught a really horrible teacher that way, but this fighting strategy only worked ’cause the whole class teamed up, if i’d done such a thing solo i would’ve probably been expelled

So i only see the civil disobediance strategy working if the whole planet teams up to do such a thing at the same time

Again, there’s a time and place to fight, and there’s a time and place to stand down. The time to fight will come, we just have to have some…yoda - patience

This is a good point, ultimately, @lavosslayer, the important thing’s to make it a special day for your wife, it’s the thought that conts. She’s an adult, and shouldn’t have a tantrum just ’cause she doesn’t get to go to disney world. Whatever you decide, hope you guys have a great day

Well, i’m terrified of needles, so hopefully there’s a solution to this madness that doesn’t start with a v 😁

I’ve solved all of disney world’s problems:

On most of the planet, mask are only mandatory indoors, and theme parks are largely outdoors, so, if disney cares so much about social distancing, instead of overcrouding the parks during bug season, have a limited amount of tickets per day, with a morning slot and an evening slot so everyone gets a chance to go, get people to book these tickets online, they know how big the parks are, therefor they know how many people can fit compfortably without being packed like sardines, do like everywhere else, mask mandatory indoors, if you don’t want to wear a mask you don’t have to go in, and have Mickey Mouse on social distancing patrol if they’re so concerened of the bug, and now there’s a little something for everyone, problem solved! Bonus, with less people in the parks at a time, the lines for the rides’ll be shorter, even if they make you sit one seat yes one seat no

                Reality sucks 😑

                #181097

That would be better than what it is. The thing is other than your suggestion for them to allow us to not wear a mask outside, they actually do all of the other things you are suggesting already. Mandatory mask indoors, reserve slots for parks through the Disney phone app. It’s just dumb that they force it outside but have “rest zones” where you can take them off…which makes the entire idea of mandatory masks seem as frivolous as it really is.
