Funny thing about those Ewok films… they could have been good. They weren’t, and it’s hard to believe they went ahead with it, but I’ve heard some

stories about drama behind the scenes. Truly, a documentary is waiting to be made about them, it’s a blurry and nebulous time of Star Wars History.

    Feel old yet?

I watched the hell out of these when I was a kid, especially the second one. To a little kid, they were fantastic.

There is no doubt they do not stand up to the test of time.

They are pretty cheesy but for 80’s made for TV films geared towards kiddies, I thought they were fine. Though if I recall correctly I think the 2nd one actually had a “Some material may be too intense for younger viewers” warning when it first aired.

Kinda wish that rumor of dark zombie Ewoks under Palpatine’s spirit’s control rumor had panned out in Rise of the Skywalker and Rey ran into their leader…evil Cindel.

Wouldn’t mind Lucasfilm throwing a bone to those raised on those films and doing something with her or the speedster creature from the second one. A survival story of her crash landing on a strange planet or something.

See, this is why we need an animated anthology series instead of Clone Wars or Rebels, one that allows them to dip into the old EU and highlight characters that will probably never return or have a real chance of landing on the big screen.

I used to rent The Ewok Adventure all the time on VHS back when the old video store was still in my town. Loved that movie been some time since I have re watched it will have to again.

I enjoyed and still do the Ewok movies, I think they should be canon.  They were fun and back in the 80’s there was plenty of sword and sorcery TV and movies to enjoy, schlock or quality.

The sad truth is… I don’t really mind the Ewoks at all. It was a disappointment that they replaced Wookiees with Ewoks, as originally

it was supposed to be Kasshyk (I know I spelled that wrong). I think though that the fantasy elements of the Ewok movies were a complete

joke, when they could have been good. The films at the time were attempting to mimic old holiday animation TV specials narrated by Burl Ives.

Bad choice. Too familiar to audiences, it was simply not going to do its own thing. Say what you will about THE STAR WARS HOLIDAY SPECIAL

but its background was insanely original. Wookiees living in a treehouse, with stormtroopers busting in…wow… who expected that on a

Christmas Special.  Also, they didn’t really carry over enough of the Ewoks, and make them actual characters in the movies. The freaking cartoons

did more with the ‘characters’ of the Ewoks.

Think about it, you have an alien planet with characters who are aliens, a whole culture, a whole world could have been explored just in the California

Redwoods alone. It could have been interesting, but it wasn’t, and George Lucas probably should have been more involved (I know I just said that.)

I reiterate that a documentary could probably be made just like the Richard Stanley doc about The Island of Dr. Moreau. I don’t know how many

Ewoks are still alive, but in all sincerity, it’s a chapter of Star Wars that has yet to be explored in depth, and interviews with all involved would be fascinating

and imagine a trip to the California Redwoods…
