What I really liked about this series (and its sequel Dark Empire II), was that it showed how nasty and dirty a civil war really is.

Dark, gritty, destroyed equipment/vehicles, devastation all over the place.

And not the clean combat/war/fighting we see most other stories doing.

While not my favorite storyline, they definitely did return of the emperor way better then Rise of Palpatine

And when Luke took on Vader’s helmet…

.. the vision from the tree back on Dagobah (Empire Strikes Back), where it is Luke’s face behind the Vader mask…

      I loved the tie-in.

“My father’s destiny is my own!”

While I agree with it, I might have suggested instead that it was more a “the Skywalker’s destiny to be Vader, is now mine!” or something along those lines.

This is why I say in the video, the best stuff of Dark Empire is when it focuses on Jedi/Sith, Palps, and Luke/Leia. That is the best part of the story. And that’s why I also think it would have been better as a novel, because I would have liked to be in Luke’s head as he fell deeper and deeper into the Dark Side. Some people think comics are the best medium to tell stories, but I disagree. Novels will always allow us to truly get a better look at the internal workings of a character, and Dark Empire would have been better served to get us in the mind of Luke and even Palps.

@Roas You just explained why I enjoy movie novelizations, as they can explain characters thoughts and feelings and other details that can’t be easily explained on film or as pictures (comics).

You get to see the details that did NOT make it in otherwise.
