They just were, change my mind

I won’t because they were in some sense

I actually like the prequels it’s just that the originals were much more better at storytelling, ep 4-6 was a simple and perfect story, the effects still hold up to today, the writing was perfect, the story of luke and vader in ep 6 was perfect and the some of the stuff in the prequels like some of the writing and the cg didn’t really age well.

The overall story, character/story arc, and concept of the prequels was awesome and consistent.  But the execution of it was very flawed (and very cringe at times), Lucas should have hired and brought on other screenwriters and directors to flesh out his vision of the prequels on the screen (I know he wanted to revolutionize digital filmmaking with the prequels) and he should have just been the master overseer on everything (instead of taking on the screenwriter and director position iof the prequels), just like he did with Empire and Return of the Jedi.

I won’t try to change your mind because your are totally right!!

Originals I feel are event films, they are something special, The prequels are true epic in my mind. I would say the originals were better only because the dialogue in the prequels were bad, I would say it doesn’t matter, we two great trilogies

I won’t change your mind because I completely understand this perspective. I feel like my answer to this dilemma changes with my mood. To use an analogy, let’s say the originals are like a juicy hamburger with French fries and that the prequels are like a steaming brownie with ice cream melted on top. Which one do I enjoy more? It depends on the moment as well as my mood. One isn’t necessarily more “healthy” (or in this case, better for you intellectually) then the other. The trilogies are simply two different flavors that were made by George to be enjoyed.

    Patrician taste.

Prequels are fine from a novel point.  Reading them, it’s fun.  Watching them… Man, did they drop the ball on acting.

The acting killed these movies (Too much CGI coming in at a close second).  It was like they were reading from the q-card in half the scenes.  No emotion, dead stare as they delivered lines… and it wasn’t just Hayden and Natalie, but they were the two most obvious.  Funny that they were fine in other movies… so it must be whomever was directing them ;)

A lot of good thoughts being shared here. One thing I will say is that the prequels suffer from bad villains in a way the OT doesn’t.

    1. Nute Gunray is just a sniveling coward, not commanding presence like Grand Moff Tarkin.
    2. Dooku is good (because of Christopher Lee) but an opportunity missed for Maul to return as a villain like Vader became the villain of ESB.
    3. Either Maul should have led the droid armies instead of Grevious or we should have gotten cartoon Clone Wars Grevious (who gave the Jedi real fear). Dooku could have been the political leader of the separatists with Maul as the military leader.

Compelling villains are essential to great storytelling and the OT has compelling villains in a way the prequels don’t.

May the Force be with you!

I’d say the prequel era is vastly superior, but the originals are the better movies. They execute a simple story perfectly. However I feel like the prequels are too complex to be told in a trilogy format. An anthology like The Clone Wars really helps flesh everything out and make Anakin’s fall more believable.

Prequels are more meme-able though :)

Well as much as I love the Prequels, I have to say from an objective stand point that there are more flaws in them than the OT, but from my subjective point I love them, just a few corrections here and there and they would have been loved by all, well at least i’d hope so

The dialogue…you can’t win on that point. It is objectively terrible in the prequels…I don’t like sand…

Anakin was being romantic. He got the girl didn’t he? Lol

I loved the prequels as a kid. If they came out now I wouldn’t like them as much. But I still like a lot of things about them. I really liked the characters. The lightsaber battles were cool overall. The story made sense all the way through. They set things up and paid them off. Although it could have been executed better.. I liked the original three movies too. I wouldn’t say one is better than the other. They are both good with positives and negatives. My favourite Star Wars movie is “The Phantom Menace”. But I also love “A New Hope”.
