Ok, I was a big TV watcher before the quarantine. Now that I’ve been essentially working from home for four months, I’ve cut about two hours of commuting out of each day, so I’ve been able to binge even more. As a result, I feel like I’m running out of shows to watch, and I don’t really want to just keep re-watching things.

Please recommend shows that I should stream on either Netflix or Amazon Prime Video (USA Region for both), and I’ll try to give them a shot. To make me get to them sooner, give a brief non-spoiler description and what you liked about it to get me interested. Try not to post long lists of shows – I don’t want this to be like all the other forums that just have lists and lists of shows. Limit it to like your top 3 if you HAVE  to do more than one. :) Try to avoid duplicates too if you can! That way I get the most suggestions from the most people. If I’ve already seen your suggestion, feel free to make another one.

If you recommend something I’ve seen, I’ll comment and let you know, and say what I thought about it. If I haven’t, I’ll share my thoughts after I’m a few episodes in.

I’m interested in pretty much anything. Action, Comedy, Horror, Anime, Crime, Romance, Fantasy, Sci-Fi

Hit me with your best stuff! I eagerly await it!

      Netflix:

      1) Black Mirror – futuristic anthology series with dark and witty humor, my fave show on netflix

      2) Stranger Things – horror, 80s nostalgia, some episodes are better than others but overall great story/plot, i’m hooked and can’t wait for season 4

      3) Living With Yourself – comedy mini-series that stars Ant-man in dual role, got me laughing my ass off

Wow – three great suggestions @DigiCat! Unfortunately I’ve seen all three already. You absolutely get top marks for variety though! That’s a good mix.

      1) Black Mirror: definitely a great show. The first episode turns a lot of people off but if you stick it out past that one there are some real gems in there. I can’t pick a favorite episode, but I really liked “Playtest”, “15 Million Merits”, and “Nosedive” among others.

      2) Stranger Things: I really liked the first season, but I think it kind of fell off a cliff after that, and the plot has really suffered – especially in the third season. The first season just had such a great blend of suspense/mild horror mixed with fantasy, and such an interesting concept, plot, and character work that it has just been hard to replicate. I’ll still watch season 4 when it comes out though.

      3) Living With Yourself – I’m surprised to see this one. Not because it isn’t great, just because it isn’t one of the most popular offerings on Netflix. I really like Paul Rudd, and he’s great in this show. The concept is really interesting, and I’m excited for the possibility of a season 2. The idea of having a clone to take care of the work part of my day seems really nice (especially right now during my busiest week of the financial quarter), but obviously would probably end in disaster. The part in the beginning with Tom Brady really made me laugh too.

Hi @FischersOfMen, just noticed the G+G upgrades of like buttons and @ people. Nosedive’s my favorite Black Mirror episode, also really liked Black Museum and Striking Vipers. When more good shows come to the top of my head i’ll be sure to add to your list :3

If you want, you can try anything from the DC Animated Universe. Those shows are mind-blowing.

What is mind-blowing about them? What are your favorite aspects? I haven’t watched any DC cartoons since I was a kid, but I had a couple roommates in college who were really into Young Justice. I tried watching Reign of the Supermen recently and was very unimpressed. The voice acting didn’t seem that great, the animation was just ok, and the fights were subpar. I remember watching Justice League War back when it came out and enjoying it enough, but I’ve never been a huge DC fan.

I also think anime has spoiled me. Shows like Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works have some top notch animation that I haven’t seen from any western cartoons yet. And long-running shows like Naruto/Naruto Shippuden have character work that is also unrivaled in western animation as far as I know.

Can I stream any DC Animated Universe shows or movies on Netflix or Prime? I’m not seeing any…

        Thanks for the suggestion!

        Twin Peaks, Ozark, and G.L.O.W.

        All on Netflix.

It’s not a drama but I’ve been watching “Forged in Fire” on Hulu.  It’s like Chopped, but making weapons.

        #175432

forged in fire is the greatest competition show out there.

        #175433

Started on Knightfall last night. 3 episodes in and while it doesnt seem to be based on fact (unlike the disclaimer) its been good. The fighting during the 1st episode is good for a made for TV budget.

On the other hand they havent said Deus Vult once; which was the Templar battle cry. So they get no points at all for accuracy.

A suggestion and someone right below backing you up? Obviously I had to try this one out right away – I’d never seen an episode before today.

I’m on Episode 5 right now and I’m enjoying it a lot. I really like these sorts of competition shows – but I’ve never really seen any that weren’t food-based. Cuthroat Kitchen, Master Chef, etc. I enjoy this spin, and would never have watched an episode if it wasn’t suggested here, so thanks!

Hulu starts with S4, so I had to start there. I enjoy seeing them forge their blades and having to include things like barbed wire and golf clubs, and seeing the craft mixed with the creativity is really neat.

Looks like season 5 is like 40 episodes. Holy cow. I’ll keep working through it over time.

        Great suggestion!

I’ve seen both seasons that are on Netflix so far, and have really enjoyed it!

I like the characters, and the story, especially in the first season. Mark Hamill shows up in season 2 which was kind of fun to see. Before watching the show, I didn’t have much knowledge on the events depicted. I like shows like that that pull from real events, and it had me googling while watching and learning more about it. Not my favorite show ever, but definitely interesting enough to hold my attention. It looks like Season 3 was cancelled which is dissapointing.

I can’t speak to the historical accuracy but a solid suggestion! Thanks!

I’ve been watching Doom Patrol, it just came back for a new season. I’d suggest Marvel’s Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D. but I can’t 100% recommend it becuase there seems to be a lot of annoying SJW crap in the new season. You know, the standard oOOOOOooOOOoo racism and oOOoOoOOo woman can do anything a man can, look how she puts that MISOOOOJONIST man in his place.. otherwise it’s alright, also Stargirl, it’s ok

Three great suggestions! I’ve seen some of each.

Twin Peaks I got 6 episodes into and it didn’t seem like it was going anywhere, especially since Season 1 only had like two more episodes after that. I don’t know if it was just a slow burn or if I wasn’t paying enough attention… It also just seemed kinda weird to me. I know S2 is a lot longer than S1, so I’ll give it another try, but I’ll have to start from episode 1 again, which makes me nervous. What did you like about it that makes it so great? I hear good things about it, and I know it was brought back for a season in 2017, but I honestly struggled with this one.

Ozark is a great show. I binged through S1 sooo fast, but I never finished season 2. I started S2 over yesterday, and I’ll keep working through it. I think the story is super interesting, and I really like the characters. Season 1 was great. I’ll post an update when I finish Season 2. It might be a couple weeks though – this is my busiest time of the quarter at work unfortunately.

GLOW is pretty good, but I haven’t enjoyed it as much as Ozark. I’m not sure why I binged straight through GLOW but haven’t finished S2 of Ozark. I think it is probably the genre – GLOW is much more of a comedy, so it is much lighter and easier to watch through for me. I think it is a pretty interesting story overall, and the fact that its based in reality makes it even more interesting. The character work is pretty good and they make you care about the individual characters as the story progresses. Alison Brie is really good in it, and Marc Maron is great as well. I’ve only ever seen Alison Brie in Community before this, so its a pretty big departure from her character there, which I thought was interesting to see.

        Great suggestions! Thanks!

As an update, I always think it is weird when they do the Kill/Cut tests, and they do “kill” before “cut”…seems like that’s backwards to me.

But I guess maybe it has to do with the difference between cutting flesh and cutting Kevlar/denim/whatever else.
