For those who are unaware, the upcoming tv shows based on Halo and Resident Evil will turn Captain Keyes and Wesker into black dudes.

I think it’s interesting how in both of these shows, the white character they turned black happens to be military (in Wesker’s case, paramilitary) Captains in a horror game featuring (very different) zombies, and played played by a full African looking guy that’s unrecognizable to their game models, whereas in the unrelated Resident Evil movie reboot (where Wesker will be white), Jill is going to be played by a biracial actress that vaguely resembles her game counterpart in a very similar fashion to how Miranda Keyes was cast in the Halo show, do you think that the two studios are sharing ideas around, or just a case of great minds thinking alike (as the old saying goes)?
What are your thoughts on this? do you embrace race swapping or object to it? does a character’s race need to be explicitly play a narrative purpose in the source material in order to justify preserving their original design? or are you in the camp of “if it looks that way in the game, there’s no reason it shouldn’t on screen”?
