I was listening to a Tim Pool video and at some point he was speaking to why large companies make such massive gaffes in marketing as they seem almost intentionally attacking their own customer bases.
He mentioned that he thought ESG and the availability of investment funds based on it had plenty to do with it and I agree with that entirely. But he also though the social media algorithms were essentially feeding back false information as to what was popular or what was the “pulse” of your customer base as marketing now relies heavily (if not sometimes exclusively) on those stats. And again I agree.
But then it occurred to me that not only was blaming the social media algorithms correct but it did not go far enough. The algorithms themselves are inorganically (and intentionally) biased to make certain things appear popular. This is how Twitter was used for a long time as a leftist weapon. And initially that is all that happened. In other words leftist idea X was posted by leftist radical Y. The bots and the platform pushed that post to make it appear as if everyone agreed with it when that was not at all the case. That part I am certain everyone is aware of.
-however-
Beyond that I believe as big tech got cozy with one another and collaborated and they all started using biased algorithms, they began to influence one another and to the point of making a feedback loop so that things of little value or that were contrary to what most folks supported went viral in a big way and seemingly almost instantly.
So for example if some official radical leftist posts something insane that no one but the radical establishment likes on Twitter. Maybe Twitter boosts that post or that account so many people see it whom would normally not. This results in more popularity as millions see it whom normally never would. Which results in another boost from the algorithm and so on.
My assertion does not stop there. I suspect there is either an automated sync of algorithms between platforms or a manual one. So take that post I mentioned. So it goes super viral on twitter because it’s whatever political thing the left wants to boost. That same boost happens on Facebook and Instagram and maybe TikTok either automatically or because the same puppet master pulls the same strings and tells all those companies to boost it. Then before you know it everyone is talking about this post because it’s being seen all over which causes people to like, comment etc and those platforms algorithms boost it further because it now appears popular. Now it has gone from a viral post to a political topic overnight.
I think sometimes this is very intentional and other times not and I believe the machine gets away from them sometimes and it happens so fast they cannot curate it fast enough which is how on occasion stories/videos get out they do want to really be seen. Think of all the times on YouTube you see some ridiculous video that has nothing to do with anything you care about, have watched before or are interested in. I think that’s a small example of this occurring.
