Read somewhere that the people who made the original absolutely insisted that there was NEVER to be a sequel.  The first one really did leave a huge impression on me. I saw it and Terminator when I was too young to really be fully conscious. Last Starfighter was one of the best movies ever made. Hugely influential. I have always liked the concept of gaming being used to recruit pilots. It’s a concept that will never get old with me.  Ernest Cline, the guy who wrote Ready Player One, wrote a book called Armada, which was his attempt at Last Starfighter:     https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armada_(novel)  and   https://www.amazon.com/Armada-novel-author-Ready-Player/dp/0804137277   looks like critics panned it, but I enjoyed it. Very much a template. The other effort was a comic called Hexagon on webtoons: https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/hexagon/list?title_no=546432&page=1    and I do think very highly of Tom Bilyeau and Impact Theory, as he does my favorite comic right now.

i have heard of the book armada by cline but never bought it or RPO, the last starfighter was also a big film for me, i really hope they do it right. no PC garbage, no cancel culture, just pure nostalgia, and awesomeness. i didnt know about the original but screenwriter johnathan betuel who wrote the original is also attached, it still has not been picked up by a studio which is why they showed the reel, i really hope they do keep the gaming aspect of it, at that time that was something that really grabbed me as someone who is into gaming. if they do it right i will be behind them all the way but if the mess this up then i will be so mad, because on top of this they have messed up almost all of my childhood properties, and it is getting to the point where i am beginning to think they want to do that.

I own the 25th anniversary edition of Last Star Fighter on DVD, and Armada is on my Google Play Books audio book list (dose Ernist Cline have Will Wheaton’s soul? The guy reads all his audio books). Love them both! I will have to check out the web comic mentioned.

I do not remember the 80’s…. if you were alive in them and say you do what rock were under a pet rock.

But Last Starfighter was great, most of the 80’s shows were and the music sure was. But man My heart hurts thinking how bad they will mess this up.

Just finished reading Ender’s Game. Another book along the same lines of games being used to find the best and brightest. Totally mind-blowing book. Movie was just ok. Just for me, The Last Starfighter was the first real movie to go into gaming and one of the first movies to use CGI. Legendary cinematic film. Great thread topic. I commend you.

I have the new Arrow Collectors Edition Blu Ray, that came with a poster and other goodies.

As someone who absolutely adores the original movie, it’s in my top of all time, I have big concerns about this. I don’t want it being WOKE and I don’t want it being a female lead simply because of checkmarks and reasons. Maybe have Alex and Mags to have had twins. A boy and girl, then it wont feel like an agenda.

I saw the info and sizzle reel a few days ago. There has been talks about a Starfighter Academy show for a few years as well.

I really think this should stay on the shelf.

The film is great dont ruin it by pulling a limp jedi.
