OK.  I am not sure if this is in the right spot but as I was looking in the Entertainment section of the forum…this has literally been nagging at me for a while.  However, I am certain a majority of us (to a point) have come across this in some form or another.

Anyone here familiar with the big thick hulking discs referred to as Laser Discs? (Almost as wide as those thin black fragile record discs).

I was having a chat with one of my co-workers a couple of days ago and her grandkid asked about the VHS tape as she explained it and then he followed up with “What’s a VHS Player?”

I swear…most have it good today BUT…they don’t realize how strikingly different those of us from the 80s and 90s had it compared to the ones now.

I’ve seen some pics of the giant lazer discs on instagram, they look so cool, haven’t had a chance to see 1 in real life yet, i do have some of the other predecessor of the DVD, VCDs

Still have a couple of VHS players, one inclueded in a Box TV, but that ones broken, that might be ’cause i tried to feed the TV pasta as a toddler 😁 that was pretty dumb, especially since i knew that was a VHS player and only VHSs were suppost to go in there 🧠👼

Also have the rival of the VHS player, the BetaMax player, unfortunately, it litterally fried when it was tried out for the first time in probably 30 years, there was smoke coming out of it 🔥

My uncle had one of those hand held movie cameras that used actual film.

At family gatherings he’d walk with his projector, set up a white cloth “screen” on a wall and boom: Instant Movie Theatre.

Editing was done with a manual splicer, but it was more often used to repair damaged sections of the film whenever the projector decided to munch…lol.
