I am sure this shocks no one. I am sure Rumble is next because it is starting to really gather some steam. However, Rumble is merging with a big company so they might get watered down anyway. I would not be surprised if Alphabet all of a sudden ended up with a huge stake in Rumble.
I learned years ago, Never get involved with any NY City businessman, so this has NO affect on me.
But also I along with many people said this would happen. So again no surprise here. This is not even news worthy IMO. And to be honestly open about it, Until someone has the money or the government steps in and says flat out The Internet is for everyone and ISP cannot dictate moderation terms outside the scope of Illegal activity and actions then it will continue. Which honestly this is one time I believe the government should step in on a very narrow scope to say that the internet IS a Town Square and is protect a such for free speech.
You think the heads on twitter exploded with Elon, they would all probably go full lemming off a cliff, if that ever happens. And yes the Government actually has the authority under several constitutional clauses. Interstate Commerce (The Net is Commerce) and Taxes (we all pay them for cable and internet) . Not to mention the FCC etc. They do not even need the First Amendment though that would be the ultimate way to do it by simply bringing it under that protection. And it would protect the ISP and put the responsibility on a website to police itself and if it does not then the Authorities can step in the LEGAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AUTHORITIES.
Well the argument of it is a private company and it can do what it wants I do believe is valid.
That does not mean you get to work with other companies that you do not compete with and squash your competition. I do not see how that is allowed to happen over and over. The market only works if its not controlled by the goverment or monopolies and unfortunately we have both things going on.
So the whole retort of “go build your own” is absolute BS because when we do they get banned, attacked and squashed by rivals.
Actually their is plenty of Laws and Regulation on Private Companies. The Argument is its private it moot and invalid if the Government simply Uses the Constitution to say This is Commerce and this Falls under the Commerce clause. They could even go further and use the worse of all amendments (the 14th). There is so many ways if they want to regulate it they can. The second they use the Commerce Clause SCOTUS is taken out of the equation even for overturning it. But it will take people forcing the politicians to act.
