It may be days yet before we know the final results but at least one pundit on Fox is saying this was an utter failure by the GOP.  Florida was a resounding success to be sure but given the issues of inflation, the economy and crime it doesn’t appear they were able to replicate that result in many other states.

Two results of note: Dr. Oz has lost to invalid Fetterman and Kari Lake has apparently lost to that coward Katie Hobbs. The question is: Why?

That voters were apparently content to stick with sleepy Joe rather than give the Republicans a chance is very concerning.

Was it election fraud? Is Trump an albatross around the GOP’s neck? Does the party need retooling to appeal to attract a wider audience? Or are liberals so brainwashed they’d rather stick it out with the devil they know than go with one they don’t?

The postmortems from both sides are going to be interesting to say the least.

Not sure about utter failure but less successful then expected for sure given the dire circumstances of the economy.

And while your list of reasons is not invalid I believe it is something far more simple at play (beyond the obvious scare tactics and fear mongering which do play a part).  At this point in the game, many folks would rather pay $5 a gallon for gas and $7 for a loaf of bread than to have their “team” lose.  Some folks are so tied to that “D” or “R” that they identify with it.

Now, will that be the case when gas is $10 a gallon (and it will) and a loaf of bread $15 if you can find one?  Who knows.  We will have to see.

I predicted the dems would win the midterms months ago. They will win every “election” from now on. They have perfected the steal.
And Americans have no choice but to either take it or pack up and leave. That is the wise thing to do. If you want freedom, move to Russia.

Even if I were to entertain your initial assertion that last part makes me reconsider that.  I have no doubt that Russia as a culture and its people are wonderful.  But to call it free is hyperbole.  Although ,at this point, calling the US free might be hyperbole as well.

        #286334

Of course it’s a little hyperbolic, and especially now under the war laws it’s not entirely free anymore.

I should have probably said Hungary, Bulgaria or Serbia, which are a lot more “free” than Russia, but their future is more in jeopardy, since they are EU member states (Serbia not yet but will be).

But even Russia today is – by contrast – a much more free country than the US. It’s not even close. Economic freedom absolutely eclipses that of the US, there is far less red tape, overregulation, corruption etc. As a business owner, you can’t get sued for anything any everything either (i.e. not fulfilling racial or gender quotas when hiring). Doctors don’t lose their license if they speak out against vaccines or gender affirmation surgery. Even criticism of the war effort is still legal, but there are certain restrictions which make it risky. I.e. anything that can be construed to “insult” the leadership, military or “harm morale” will lead to a hefty fine. But in your average day to day life… it’s one of top 5 freest nations in the world.

Another poster asked why Republicans lost?

        1. Fraud. Obviously Dems cheat in big cities and get away with it.
        2. Women are furious over abortion.
        3. Young people are pissed off over the anti-lgbt bigotry.

I said it before, I’ll say it again, conservatives handed the country to the communists because of their religious BS. It’s political suicide. Hope it was worth it.

I cannot argue the stuff about Russia because while I am familiar with the culture from here I really of course don’t know what it is like to live there so I cannot really say.  However, I think we can both agree both Russia and the US are not near as free as we might like them to be.

The Republicans did not lose.  They just did not win some of the races that polling said they would.  And in reality it’s not R vs D.  It’s establishment cronies vs outsiders. That’s the real battle going on and many of the Republicans that won are cronies.

Your list?  Incorrect in my opinion:

          1) Fraud – maybe in some places but not sure you can cast that net over every election in the country that was had.  Cleary their was some sort of shenanigans in Arizona and that’s a fact.

          2) Abortion – there is nothing to be furious about, the fury was mostly just drummed up by Democrats.  All that happened is that the legality of abortion was punted to the states where it should be.  Almost everything should be in the hands of the states.  Let people customize how they want to live based on where they live.

3)LGBT bigotry?  Are you in the US?  I am not even sure what you are referring too.  This does not exist in any sort of popular or systemic way.

You assertion that religion soured this for Republicans is silly.  Nothing was based on that that I am aware of.

True, neither are really free free, but Russia is still top 5. I’ve been there a lot, it’s legitimately great. Not everywhere, surely not the chechen areas, and the infrastructure outside of the two big cities is bad. But in terms of culture… wow.

As an example of their culture: https://odysee.com/@TimelessTruths:3/TheScarletSailsFestival2019:d
This is a yearly festival held for school graduates. The theme is taken from a Russian novel where a girl dreams of a captain on a ship with scarlet sails coming to take her to a happy life. A captain hears of this and colors his ship’s sails red and takes her away. The idea is that you can make dreams come true with your own hands (shocking idea, as opposed to the American “you didn’t build that, someone built it for you”)

Other themes in the show are some slavic mythology about a small band of heroes at the start, and obviously the kids in the kosmonaut suits represent Russia’s history with space exploration. Generally extremely wholesome, uplifting, patriotic stuff. At the end, people shout “Rossia” over and over. Just let this footage sink in and compare it with what you’re familiar with.

This is what a healthy culture looks like. None of the debauchery, filth, degeneracy of America. Compare this show to America’s Superbowl halftime shows. Vile, half naked women and drug addicts celebrated for gyrating their hips, grabbing their crotches, sexually charged lyrics, ugly music, ugly people, ugly message, ugly culture. There is no real beauty in America anymore. It’s a culture that celebrates ugliness.

Russia, for all its flaws, has the healthiest culture in the world. It’s one of the last few countries on Earth still striving towards great ideals, still promoting a positive outlook on life. It’s a multicultural nation even. There are White, Asian and Turkic Russians. Now that the West can no longer finance Chechen Mujaheddin terrorist groups, there hasn’t been a terror attack in years. At the end of the show above, they perform a music piece by a famous Muslim singer. They have none of the racial identity politics crap in the US.

As for politics, you’re right, there isn’t currently any law discriminating against lgbt people. Most people don’t read laws though. The technicality of turning the decision over abortion back to the states doesn’t really matter, because most people are too dumb to understand what that means anyways. They care more about “the message”.
You had Clarence Thomas and other Republicans suggesting to roll back gay marriage. And countless red states immediately banned abortion, some even in cases of rape.
More importantly, Republicans resisted gay marriage and even the legalization of homosexuality every step of the way. Texas still had “sodomy” laws until 2003. Now with the Roe v Wade stunt, Republicans just committed political suicide. There’s no recovery from this.

If not for Roe v Wade and the anti gay marriage history, Republicans would have swept this election and no amount of cheating in PA or AZ could have prevented a red wave. But they just can’t help themselves. The only way Republicans can ever even hope to regain power will be if they have a new generation and completely get behind gay marriage, trans rights and abortion. But then they lose the evangelical vote. So either way… there’s no hope.

I find the Russian culture to be most interesting and very beautiful.  There is much tradition there and the Russian folks seem pretty awesome from what I have seen.  Clearly that does not go for the goverment.  But as I saw someone say recently, “people are people, they are not their governments”.

As far as the rest I disagree with you.  I refute much of what you said, talk of laws or mere mentions of possibilities does not equate to rampant bigotry.  One can think something to be wrong or sinful without hatred being involved.  Roe v. Wade did not fall because of religion.  It fell because it was a faulty law.  It was not activism that defeated it, it was activism that made it a law. Ginsberg herself questioned it as far as law goes even though she was a pro abortion.

The United States is made of separate states each with their own laws.  All the in-fighting you see now is based on the fight with the federal goverment trying to centralize everything.  It is normal for the 50 states to have different laws, they are not supposed to agree on everything and be mirrors of each other.  That was never the intent.

            These are just my opinions.

Even the government is pretty good. Putin a year or two ago spoke at Davos of how the middle class is the backbone of the economy – to sneers and chuckles from Western diplomats.
Yes, the Russian government is somewhat authoritarian. I would categorize them as meritocratic nationalism with maybe a tiny hint of fascism. I’ll take a benevolent fascim over socialism any day.

Of course Roe v Wade was faulty law. But toppling it was a gift to Democrats. It was an unwise thing to do.

Fully agree with your last part.

“… at least one pundit on Fox is saying this was an utter failure by the GOP.”

This election wasn’t about Democrats versus Republicans, but about Americans versus the Establishment. Most of Trump’s candidates won, and most of those candidates aren’t Establishment, which is why Establishment politicians like McConnell worked so hard to stop them.

While the numbers of national D’s versus R’s may not have changed so much as some were predicting, Trump inserted a massive number of Americans into the Republican party, which I suspect was his primary goal. Consider the seat once held by Liz Cheney. On paper, it was held by a Republican, and will still be held by a Republican, so no apparent change there, but the Establishment took an enormous hit in losing Liz.

The long-term effect that can have is witnessed by what happened in Florida, where an unquestionable Red Wave occurred in a state that was once sharply divided, with only hanging chads separating the sides. It’s not surprising to me, therefore, that many Establishment Republicans are trying to say this election is the death knell of Trump.

I suspect, however, it’s quite the opposite, as the power of Americans in the Republican Party increases, and as Trump continues to do his best to replace the Establishment with Americans.

So, I hope this election -was- an utter failure for the Establishment, the GOP included, while being a significant gain for Americans.
