6 episodes in while making the Bird and Fixings. I will not spoil anything for anyone.

So far I am enjoying the show, there is a lot of “trust the audience to figure things out” and many thinks that have made me laugh which is very much needed today.

First, the first episode is slow. But not in a bad way, it actually sets up the story and introduces characters and the first mystery of many. This is something that shows use to do “Trust the audience and build a story” It feels much like late 70’s and early 80’s soaps in that it actually has drama, plots and suspense. Aint no damn Mystery boxes here or Tell the audience. Welcome to story telling.

Now as to the Cast, I love Jenna Ortega in this she has it down, no disappointment here.

Next Wednesdays room mate “Emma Myers” is also bery good and there is actually a fun chemistry between them which im really enjoying.

Gwendoline Christie, i did not take to serious in GOT and thought she would be only a meh at best, I must say she is pretty good and im enjoying her.

Luis Guzman, is only meh at best, he does look the part of Gomez, I know he is only a guest and supporting actor but something is off on him.

Catherine Zeta-Jones, there is no doubt she is a veteran actress, a real one who can play a role and make it good. Though the first two episodes were more a phone it in than her acting. That changed and I again remembered why I enjoy her acting.

The rest of the cast all seem to work well together, there is without doubt Chemistry, seems to be a trait of a Tim Burton show, he knows how to direct and damn well knows how to use a camera and scenery. All in all a very fun series so far.

Now are there call-backs to the original show? YES and not over used, but placed in the right places and right times.

The big question, is this an Agenda or Political drive show???? Not 6 episodes in, in fact I would say its more along the lines of some Old Mel Brooks taking shots and all the BULLSHIT. (If you know Brooks, you know what I mean) and this had that feel to it which I appreciated. There is some things you start to go errrrnoo then LOL and have to think Well Played well played indeed.

I would say up to ep-6 its very fun. I know I have missed things doing the things that must be done for today (Thanksgiving) so I will need to rewatch. But I am enjoying it, and Proper use of Metallica gives this show extra points.

      On episode 6 now.

5 was the weakest, coincidentally the first one Burton did not direct, and the fact it broke far away from out main storyline. Writing was also the weakest, as was the story which I feel kinda screwed with the lore and cucked Gomez a bit. Also, a little bit of agenda crept in.

Hasn’t ruined the show for me, but it’s definitely lowering my overall score at this point.

        Keeping it spoiler free.

Finished the series and will say it was very fun and the plot to the mystery well done and well played.

Now ratings wise I am going to use a 1 to 10 scale for a total combined score using the Oscars rating system for a possible score of 100.

        1. Screenplay = 8.0 Episode (5) of the series knocked the entire series down from a high 9 in multiple categories. Though it was in no way horrible or even bad, there was a clear and obvious change in writers and director. Granted taking over for Tim Burton is no easy task, it should have been less conspicuous. And though they did pick up in episode (6) it was clear in Episodes (8,9) the director of episodes (5,6) is not the right fit for this show.

        2. Visual Effects = 8.5 there were a few effects that were a little off but not bad, more of a nit-picking and things most may not pick-up on.

        3. Sound Track = 10/12 as I said before, this gets the rare bonus points for proper use of Metallica. The score was as good as it gets.

        4. Cinematography = 8.5  again nailing the universe, there were a few flaws and my gut is give it a (9) but they were clear and obvious.

        5. Costume =10 they nailed everything Adams points for me on this.

        6. Make-up = 10 some may argue “Thing” but that is all you got, because this was really spot on Adams Family. And knowing the lore, Thing can be as much as an entire (creature) <never shown> to a hand and up to the forearm. Also there was Lady Fingers :)

        7. Editing = 8.5 And back to episode (5) for why.

        8. Adaptation = 10 This is does fit in with the Addams Family world.

        9. Directing = 8.5 I had to take 2 points off for episode (5) though it was not bad by any means you can tell they had a writing team and director change.

10/ Acting = 8.5 I thought about this one long and hard and tried to find flaws. The entire cast had chemistry together and played well off each other. It made for a very fun experience. My biggest complaint was Luiz Guzman for the above stated reasons.

90.0 overall (with bonus points for Musical score)

So the mechanics of the show were very good, but now I will give it a rating on a new scale. Lets call it the (Garbage Meter)1 to 5 scale.

        1. Did they adapt it faithfully to the Lore = Yes
        2. Was there Politics in it = NO
        3. Was there virtue signalling in it = No (See note below)
        4. Was their Agenda in in = No
        5. Is this show Woke in any way = NO
        6. Is this a Mystery Box show = HELL NO (though I did figure it out in ep-7) the journey to conclusion was still fun and even had a twist in it I did not see coming.

Ok so was there what many would call wokeness, yes but done in a mocking of it way, If i did not know better I would say they had Mel Brooks someplace lurking in the background taking shots of the social political landscape of today. It actually made me chuckle at the subtle shots taken. Now in a couple interviews I have seen, there was some definite things said. But my gut tells me they were contractually forced.

I really wish these interviews would concentrate only on the show and not the people acting or producing. I do not give a damn as many other fans do about you race, creed, color, religion, sexual preference etc etc etc.

We only care about a good story and even more so a Story we can be immersed in and try to figure things out as the story gives us the clues. This show delivered that experience. Studios need to make certain that is the only thing people talk about.

So do I recommend Wednesday? 100% see it! Even people who have no idea about the history and lore will be able to follow along.

Great review.  I am shocked it came out that good.

This must be the one out of 20 Netflix shows that is neither woke or just garbage (or both).

Glad they pulled it off and did the subject matter justice.  I just don’t use Netflix anymore because it’s not worth it to me to dig through tons of trash to find a morsel of something decent.

          Just my take on that.

That is really the problem with any streaming service. Tons of garbage, lets face it they are not networks with long running seasons which really sucks. Also the binge model as nice as it was should be “Weekly on original release” then binge 1 week after all episodes air.

But as to good shows, Netflix has more IMO than all the others combined and its showing in the Nielsens:

I would say give these a watch:
            Last Kingdom
            Warrior Nun
            Shadow and Bone
            Barbarians
            Wednesday
            Christmas Chronicles
            Christmas Chronicles 2
            Cobra Kai

They are all in the same situation where you end up looking for crumbs among the stuff no one wants to watch (as it relates to new content).

Netflix has more “good stuff” because they have more content overall, the ratio of good to garbage is the same or worse with them.  They are in the position where they were the only content aggregator for a long time.  All the other streaming services spun off later with only their own content.  More often than not, the most popular stuff on Netflix is not their own content but something on their platform someone else made.

The reality is there are 2 types of streaming companies.  Those that are at core streaming tech companies like Netflix which are trying to be studios.  And then you have actual studios trying to be streaming platforms like Disney and HBO Max.  But they both end up in the same position at the end of the day churning out anything they can think of to try to keep people subscribing.

In my opinion, I find the studios have better grade content but often times their streaming tech is problematic and often times have limited reach.  Netflix casts a much bigger net at this point than anyone else and their tech is the best but most of the stuff they make themselves is rubbish.

Amazon has the best situation I think because they made a video marketplace.    I think that is the future.  Ultimately it will all collapse in on itself and there will be aggregators again but I think they will look more like Amazon instead of Netflix.
