Is it because they are the best thing since sliced bread?
Is it because they will save the planet?
      .
Or is it because the people that steer the markets are heavily investing in the components and the rare Earth minerals?

is it because the people that steer the markets are heavily investing in the components and the rare Earth minerals?

      BullsEYES!

It has already been DEBUNKED that the cost of an electric vehicle, from getting the rare materials, to manufacturing, to getting its energy, to disposal after its live, cost the environment WAY MORE than the current petroleum fueled vehicles.

So to the elites, they can profit more by selling a vehicle that cost $20,000 MORE, make governments spend BILLIONS on new infrastructure (the power grid is not designed for that level of use/power needs), etc.

It is to make the average citizen to feel good while being worse to the environment.

      It is a CON-JOB.

How do you calculate cost to environment when they use entirely different materials?  Remember for a regular fuel burning car you need to include all the fuel burnt during it’s lifetime.

Anyway the biggest impact is the new car regardless of the drive train. So the best for the environment is if you get maximum usage from your current car. But of course car manufacturers can’t have that. So of course they are hypocrites of the highest magnitude. You can’t be both for profit and for the environment. And guess what when push comes to shove they’ll always choose profit.

“You can’t be both for profit and for the environment”

I respectfully disagree entirely. You can be for both and do something for both. There are many small companies doing just that. It’s just EASIER to go all out profit which is what is going on. Probably especially on a large scale.

Take the carbon offset nonsense. That industry does almost nothing overall but makes BILLIONS so a large company can say, “yeah so we pump bad stuff in the air but we paid someone to plant a bunch of trees so we are carbon neutral”

Most of (not all) of the green movement is smoke and mirrors for profit.

The real danger there is the actual issues we need to get addressed and quick get ignored, like plastic pollution.

If you do a compromise you are for neither, not both.

Carbon offset is not necessarily nonsense, but the fact that companies and even countries are allowed to buy and sell quotas makes it nonsense.
