WWE Extreme Rules Results 2022

WWE Extreme Rules Results 2022

For anyone that expected results from last night’s AEW Battle of the Belts 4, my apologies. I covered the previous three “specials,” but I’m done with them now. AEW is a ‘sbloody mess, and Tony Khan’s terrible attempt at being the polar opposite of Vince McMahon is highlighted often by the daft names given to bog-standard weekly shows in a hollow effort to jazz them up a little.

Anyway, refocusing on tonight’s show, WWE has become a lot easier to pick up since Triple H got behind the wheel. Sure, it’s still far from perfect, but there are plenty of little messes that have been mopped up already. I’m not expecting us to end up in The Promised Land by the time Trips is done, but it’s been nice to get away from the “eat shit and learn to enjoy the taste” days.

The little white rabbit appearances over the last week or two have been well done. The 16-bit-game-looking video with the bunny digging was used on the kick-off show and during the entrances of the first match. Miraculously, Michael Cole DIDN’T ruin the moment, as he normally would, by addressing it and unnaturally asking, “Huh, what in the worrrrld was that we just saw?” They just no-sold it as if they didn’t notice the show had been hijacked momentarily.

The Brawling Brutes vs. Imperium (6-Man Donnybrook Match)

WWE Extreme Rules 2022: Donnybrook Match

Winners: Brawling Brutes (pinfall)

These six lads just battered the piss out of each other from the bell. In a night of novelty, gimmicky matches, this was the novelty, gimmicky match of the night. All the stage props were used as weapons and broken, and Sheamus’ chest was chopped into a fine mince early on. Eventually, the ring was cleared for Sheamus and Gunther to go one-on-one, and Sheamus almost won with a Brogue Kick, but Imperium made the save. Following a chain of near-falls, Sheamus knocked Vinci out with a Brogue.

There were a couple of awkward, stagey moments where both teams just stood and snarled at each other for way too long, but the match did the job, and the crowd was adequately warmed up… possibly a bit too much. I say this because there are loads of other extreme rules/no DQ/car crash matches on the card, but there might not be as many unique spots for anyone else to do.

Liv Morgan vs. Ronda Rousey (SmackDown Women’s Title)

WWE Extreme Rules Results 2022: Liv Morgan vs. Ronda Rousey

Winner: Ronda Rousey (TKO)

The correct destination, but a dumb journey. Rousey knocked ten buckets of shit out of Liv from the start, and somehow, Liv barely took any damage. Rousey wore Liv out with the (soft) baseball bat, but Liv kept on going with her weak attacks, constipated facial expressions, and her obligatory crawl ‘n cry spots that loads of guys tune in for. Rousey, thankfully, took the title back after squeezing the life out of Liv, and the referee called it. That’s right, Liv didn’t tap to Ronda, AND she was smiling while “passing out.”

Liv Morgan beating Ronda Rousey just once was a wet turd in the shoe of women’s wrestling, and then they did it a second time. I get that many enjoy watching Liv roll around on the mat in her bra and knickers, but now’s not the time. Put it away and wash your hands; we’re meant to be watching rasslin’. Liv’s strikes aren’t convincing, she doesn’t have the posture or body language of someone in a scrap, and her tough-girl faces are hilarious, not intimidating. She’s got all the social stuff and loves posting pics of herself; enjoy those at your leisure over there.

Drew McIntyre vs. Karrion Kross (Strap Match)

WWE Extreme Rules 2022: Drew McIntyre vs. Karrion Kross

Winner: Karrion Kross (pinfall)

It took about five minutes of fighting outside the ring and in the crowd before Kross had the strap forced on him by Drew and the bell rang. As you’d expect, every time McIntrye got the advantage, Scarlett would get in the way and cause a distraction. Kross focused on the shoulder, but Drew eventually took control and whipped the skin off Kross’ back. However, as he was setting up for the Claymore, Scarlett pepper-sprayed Drew, and a Kross Hammer to the back of the head finished him off.

Bianca Belair vs. Bayley (Raw Women’s Title/Ladder Match)

WWE Extreme Rules Results 2022: Bianca Belair vs. Bayley

Winner: Bianca Belair

Both women put on a good show. Bayley is in top form as a salty heel, and Bianca is getting better with every outing. When Bianca first looked like she had a clear climb up the ladder, Bayley’s minions sacrificed themselves and kept the match going. This wasn’t enough to keep Belair down, as she hit Bayley with a Kiss of Death onto a ladder and grabbed her belt.

Edge vs. Finn Balor (I Quit Match)

WWE Extreme Rules Results 2022:

Winner: Finn Balor

If you’re a fan of heavy breathing and muffled attempts at saying “no” to the referee, this match is you. If that’s not your cup of tea, prepare yourself; this one went a while. When Edge was lining himself up to hit Balor with a spear, Rhea Ripley jumped on the apron and handcuffed Edge to the top rope. This left Edge to get a beating from the rest of Judgment Day. Rey Mysterio ran in to make the save, but he got dropped by his son when his back was turned. Beth Phoenix showed up and swung a Kendo stick at the blokes’ heads and then speared Ripley.

Beth got the cuffs off of her husband, and Edge hit three spears in a row on Finn. Then, Ripley reappeared with brass knuckles and dropped Beth. All of Judgment Day beat the snot out of Edge, but he wouldn’t quit. Ripley then threatened to crush Beth’s head with a pair of chairs, so Edge gave in and lost the match. Obviously, the heels weren’t going to let Edge off the hook that easily, and Ripley scrambled Beth’s brains anyway.

Seth Rollins vs. Matt Riddle (Fight Pit Match)

WWE Extreme Rules Results 2022: Matt Riddle vs. Seth Rollins

Winner: Matt Riddle (submission)

Seth Rollins’ identity crisis got off at the station wearing Rob Van Dam-themed attire tonight. Also, I missed what animal, if any, flew out of Riddle’s arse upon his entrance. Both men ended up getting a bit handsy with Daniel Cormier quite early on, and both of them received firm warnings from the special guest referee. Eventually, Rollins ran away to the higher level of the pit, so Riddle climbed up, and they continued brawling.

While above the ring, Rollins hit a pedigree, and then Riddle hit an RKO. This caused Rollins to roll/fall back down into the ring, and Riddle launched himself down onto Rollins with a painful senton. Once they both crawled back to their feet, they scuffled again before Riddle locked in a triangle choke for the tap-out victory.

The moment Riddle left the arena, the lights dropped, and a (not very snappy) sequence of events began, which eventually reintroduced Bray Wyatt!

A decent PREMIUM LIVE EVENT, excluding the lackluster strap match and the I Quit match that wouldn’t end. I’ve taken the bait, and I’m curious to see what happens with Bray, so let’s wait and see.
