Cowboy Bebop Production Delayed After John Cho Injury

We’re going to have to wait a bit longer to see our favorite space cowboy back on the small screen. Deadline reports that John Cho, who is set to play Spike Spiegel in Netflix’s upcoming adaptation of the iconic anime Cowboy Bebop, was recently injured in a freak accident on set. As a result, the production has been pushed back 7-9 months to allow the former Star Trek star to heal. The show is produced by Tomorrow Studios (who are also creating a live-action version of the anime One Piece) and has Thor: Ragnarok’s Chris Yost at the helm of what is expected to be a ten-episode first season.

This is unfortunate news, to be sure, but it’s nice to know that Netflix is standing behind their star rather than recasting him. This is something that would’ve been feasible, given the fact that the production was only a few episodes along. I’ve been excited to see this show for a long time, so, while I may be slightly disappointed with the delay, I’m glad John Cho is going to have the time he needs to recover. This will ensure that when he is ready, our favorite bounty hunter is done justice in the live-action medium. We here at Geeks + Gamers wish Cho a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing on the screen again down the road.

Are you glad John Cho will be sticking with the project, or do you think he should’ve been recast? Who would you cast as Spike? What are you looking forward to most about the Bebop’s live action exploits? Let us know in the comments and stay tuned to Geeks + Gamers for more TV news!
