Let’s talk Babylon 5. My favorite sci-fi that so far has not been bastardized by a bunch of woke/inter sectional/pc bullshit. Yeah there is a tiny amount of representation in it, but it isn’t in your face be happy with it or else. It was just present and that’s the way it should be.

So let’s get down to the crux of the entire situation: Who are you?  What do you want?

B5 is not a bad show.

I watched it in its original run, and in syndication for years afterwards. In all, I’ve probably watched it from beginning to end at least ….7 or 8 times, the latest time just at the end of last year.

Thing is, after seeing it so many times, for me it hasn’t aged well and outside of the main story it is REALLY boring, now. Don’t get me wrong, the main story from seasons 1-4 was great and is still compelling, but the filler kills me, now. And when you watch what became the season 4 finale, basically spoiling the entire future timeline, Season 5 was a freaking waste of time, as was the following movie that lead into the spinoff Crusade.

Recently, I was informed that the actual series finale at the end of season 5 was in fact filmed during season 4, which then makes a WHOLE lot of sense, because that is actually a good series finale. The Season 4 finale should never have been made, and its existence has always been a rough point with me.

Now, watching Gary and Az as react as B5 virgins on The Real BBC is interesting, because their reactions to episodes is valid  and the right reactions as two people seeing it all for the first time. That first time is, barring the drag that Season 1 can be, a good time and worthy of the full watch.

If you have never watched B5, then one should definitely watch it as a sci-fi fan. It’s worth it.

But as I said, when you’ve seen it so many times as I have, and when the hang ups it has still leave me bothered after over 20 years, I find no real enjoyment anymore.

It’s not like going back and doing my watches of Stargate SG1 or Farscape where no matter how many times I watch it all I am fully satisfied.

My B5 discs have been watched so many times the discs don’t work anymore. I NEED it on BluRay. I love every episode.

Yeah, the Season 5 finale was originally the Season 4 finale, but it was moved after the series was saved by TBS. Season 5 would have been much different if the series was renewed properly (I think) and Season 4 would not have been so fast.

I find DS9 to be just as much of a drag as B5. It starts of real slow. B5 is written like a typical story structure. You have your prologue, your middle, your climax, your epilogue… It’s really paced well. To me anyway.

I figure the best way to explain Season 5 is like an extended epilogue.

        I don’t know which I prefer.

The shows WITH Commander Jeffrey David Sinclair (before he became an ambassador/left the show).

or afterwards when Captain John Sheridan took over the station.

Did anyone ever notice that Besters one hand is always a fist? Apparently Bester had some kind of mental block from his past that forced his hand to always remain a fist.

There is expanded lore I never got into. But it fleshed out a few things. Like what happens to David and the Drakh. What happened to Marcus in the long run.

I really hope B5 gets left the hell alone. That being said, I do want to know what JMS original plot was. From what I know, Babylon 4 wasn’t supposed to go back, it was supposed to go forward. It had engines and was mobile. It was supposed to be the replacement for B5 when the Shadows attacked (shown in those flash scenes) or something like that. Talia’s exchange with the VCR and Kosh was actually a backup of her personality that was to be restored later. There were lots of hints in Season 1 that Delenn was going to marry Sinclair. Catherine was going to be the Anna of the show. Ah, the road not traveled…

If JMS, and JMS alone, revisits B5, that is what I want to see. The original story.

Delenn was never going to marry Sinclair, there was a panel that was asked and explained it always suppose to be Sheirdan as he was whom was worthy by all classes for what he did to the “Drala Fi”. Sinclair was Valen, Valen was Sinclair, ya talk about the time Paradox, but it was sorta explained in by Delenn to Marcus in the show.

I do not remember how the entire conversation went but the end was something like <Had humans been found on B-4, Dear God. A Minbari not born of Minbari. The Minbari would never allow that>  Marcus is alive and with a Clone Susan in the expanded U. Fate Unknown. I sometimes wonder which Love was the strongest, John and Delenn or Marcus and Susan. In the end I like to think they were all strong, I mean outside of Marcus only one group of scientist ever made Susan mad and lived to tell of it.

B5 is great, one of my all time favorite series err minus s-5 though it was ok, 4 was all that was needed….. Now if they decide to touch it, I would be fore it with the right cast in an Expanded way (not redoing b-5) but finding the cure and then rebuilding a “B-6” and taking it from there, Heavy on Rangers would be smart and really need Mira Furlan, Jerry Doyle, Billy Mumy and Stephen Furst at least in a couple episodes. But do it like Cobra Kai, bring in the Old Characters to compliment the new ones and tell a good story.|

B-5 is probably one of the best sci-fi series made, just not as well known because it is not in constant syndication

Are you sure @Mustangride1? The “original” plot had no Sheridan. JMS had several trap doors built in just in case something had to change. Michael O’Hares sickness is what created Sheridan, ultimately. Sinclair could have been Valen,  but that was a plot thread that developed more in later seasons.

There was specifically an episode in season 1 where all the races had a religious ceremony where it is implied Deleen unofficially married Sinclair. The exchanging of red fruit and sincere glances. Catherine even said it was a wedding ceremony.

I am almost positive the original plan for B4 was to go into the future, and be re-named as Babylon Prime. I swear I saw that somewhere. If that’s the case, the Valen paradox is irrelevant.

They can never build Babylon 6. Baylon 5 was the last of the Babylon stations afterall.

I just stumbled on this synopsis. I am going to look over it when I have more time. It looks interesting.

Positive. and this was before the wokeness and lies of hollywood .  B4 going future was part of the plan and scrapped for some reason, if i remember its because of how bad the expanded shows did <now that i could be mistaken on> but believe it was the reason.  Do NOT challenge Hollywood by saying they can never. Thats like telling a redneck he cant jump that ditch.

Im going to need a rainy day to read that synopsis :)

BTW talk B5 all you want, maybe get some new people to watch it, so damn good.. soo soo good.

@Mustangride1 the B4 plan was scrapped because after Season 1 the plot had to be re-worked. There were all the breadcrumbs that B5 was going to be destroyed. After O’Hare left, that footage couldn’t be used anymore so it was re-purposed as an “alternate future”. But, that’s just an outsiders view of what really happened.

That synopsis, if true, follows what I had read before. What I didn’t know was that Babylon Prime was supposed to be a sequel series.

The sequels talk I am always leery of,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Over the years I have heard rumors upon rumors upon speculations. I do not know how many times I have heard “Rangers” was going to be started back up. Thing is NOTHING ever comes of it, I would swear there is a a bunch of baby doomcocks running around making them up.

28 years since B-5 and and “Legend” was what 19 20 years. I do not see it (b5) for sure being done, many of the cast (original) have been Blunt they would not because of how good the original was and they would not want it to flop and since Andreas passing I seriously doubt they would, My god he should have won and Emy each year. Dude NAILED the role.

Man thinking about just how good the show was and how good the cast was hurts looking at the crap we have now. A testament to how good it was, I did not see  Walter Koenig as Chekov but as Bester,

Andreas Katsulas will always be G’Kar to me. Never a romulan. Not the One Armed Man. G’Kar.

He played a Romulan in TNG as a recurring character. He also played a alien of a different race in Enterprise. Maybe others, I don’t know. I don’t care. He’s only G’Kar. Legend.
