China says Britain ‘violated promises,’ may not recognize Hong Kong passports

China’s foreign ministry said Friday it may decide not to recognize British-issued passports for Hong Kong residents in retaliation for London’s moves to open a path to citizenship for those holding the documents.

Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian said that Britain had “violated its promises” and “played up” the issue of the British National (Overseas) passports.

Britain said in May that it would allow holders of such passports extended stays and the possibility of citizenship, prompting thousands of Hong Kongers to rush to renew or apply for them as Beijing steps up restriction on political expression.

So then everyone can them declare not to recognized a CCP passport?

And for Britain to have “violated its promises”?  What BS.

The CCP violated the “two systems – one nation” guarantee.

Look who is the violated here!

“As the British side violated its commitment first, China will consider not recognizing the BNO Passport as a valid travel document, and reserves the right to take further measures,” Zhao said.

    Oh please.

Your lying does not help your international image.

In fact, it just reinforces that the CCP cannot be trusted at all.

China doesn’t want to let people from Hong Kong escape because it shows them as the tyranny they are. Just like East Germany and California.

England fucked up by giving HK back to the ChiComs.

Unfortunately the situation there was untenable. By the late 90s our oh so wonderful government led by Edwina Currie’s ex boyfriend had destroyed our ability to fight a war independently so defending Hong Kong would have been out of the question and with an IRA supporting Democrat in the White House the US government could not have been counted on for support. All the Chinese would need to have done to bring the colony to its knees was shut off the water.

I still remember my father telling me at the time that the lease that was expiring was just on the New Territories, not Hong Kong itself. So the UK government not only sold out everyone in Hong Kong but they handed them over to a regime that should have had no claim on even one square inch of the New Territories. The lease was signed with the old Imperial China, the true heir to which is Taiwan.

Everything about that nasty deal stank and the people of Hong Kong have been paying the price for a generation now.

And the current UK gov. is trying to rectify some it it, by offering easier access to citizenship, as have several other commonwealth nations.

Better to it now, as fast as you can, before the CCP locks down the airports so you can’t leave, even if you wanted to.
