This has been true for a hundred years. At least since the founding of Monsanto. The worst thing about this is when you run into students with Master’s and PhDs that will tell you with a straight face that GMOs will solve world hunger. They are also pushing artificial meat now, along with the bugs. They always wrap these things in some kind of noble, altruistic propaganda.
If this is something that a person pays attention to, sometimes, you will hear about local farmers that get their produce destroyed by some county official.
Mike Rivero said something along the lines that this was a lesson from the Native Americans, and the allegation was that the reason for killing Buffalo was not for any other reason than to make people dependent on beef from the cows of certain ranchers. I am NOT sure that this is true, and would have hated to read about this when younger, but the way things are now, more and more, I am open to these kinds of allegations.

These people (the elites who want to control everything) play the same tricks over and over and over again.
They will take something legitimate like concern over climate/environment or even something as relatively small an issue as trans folks. They will take that thing and make it an agenda that they push and force you to accept after they apply it to EVERYTHING and blow it FAR out of proportion. And if you don’t accept it they claim you are against the actual legitimate thing.
You see it constantly.
“I think the Climate thing is blown out of proportion” -> “You hate the Earth and just want profits”
“I don’t think Drag Queens should dance for children” -> “Homophobe you hate gay people”
“Maybe we should not mutilate children” -> “You transphobe you hate trans people”
It’s a phycological manipulation where they back you into a corner and feed you a loop you cannot escape.
“silence is violence, disagreement is violence” (although actual violence isn’t apparently)
It’s like saying “only a racist would not admit to being a racist”
