WarnerMedia began its rounds of layoffs earlier today amid restructuring efforts, which have reportedly affected DC Entertainment. CBR has confirmed that the layoffs are real, though DC is not commenting on specific names or executives impacted by today’s events. Jim Lee remains the Chief Creative Officer for DC and works across all of WarnerMedia’s creative groups and talent to drive the connective tissue between story, creative, and media, and will continue to be involved on the publishing side as well.
Variety reported earlier that approximately over 800 WarnerMedia staffers were to be laid off today, with approximately 650 Warner Bros. staff and 150 to 175 HBO staffers let go.

EVS in his livestream is saying 40% of the DC comic lines will be chopped.
This has been a long time coming. As a massive DC comics fan, I’ve watched as the publishing line regained lost readers and fans back in 2016 with the Rebirth Initiative relaunch, but the moment they began to move away from the progress they had made with that, it was only a matter of time. Over the last few years, they’ve time and time again chosen to focus on characters no one cares about, do beloved characters dirty through the horrendous writer and editor choices within their stories, and decreased in quality in so many ways that even when they course-corrected some of the books it was too little too late. Tom King’s cucking of Batman following the bogus wedding issue and Brian Michael Bendis’ destruction of the Superman family ruined tentpole characters. Heroes in Crisis further destroyed beloved characters by painting Wally West as an irresponsible murderer who didn’t know how to handle his powers. These were so destructive and damaging that even after James Tynion IV taking over Batman and Scott Lobdell and Brett Booth’s Flash Forward miniseries, sales have not been regained. The announcement of the 5G reboot initiative was the nail in the coffin for most readers. We’ve lost any remaining interest in these characters who are either being written terribly, or their stories wouldn’t matter once 5G began. And regardless of the small light of hope with Dan Didio’s departure from the company that 5G may not happen, we’ve had no confirmation of that and all of the best talent at DC have either already moved on or is in the process of doing so. EVS and Zack were right, and it makes me incredibly sad.
What it will come down to for fans, is that they will continue to do the crowd-funding model EVS seems to have prefective.
And it will make fans want to spend their time and money in back issues.
I personally have yet to get into those Omnibus volumes.
News at to what comics might get cancelled as a result of these layoffs is not straight forward.
Solicitations for Oct-Nov shows no “final issue” attached to them.
Guess we will have to wait for the Dec solicitations to see.
A new rumor is that alot of the titles being “CANCELLED” would have been cancelled anyway as part of the G5 reboot.
This also gives AT&T the opportunity (can blame covid) on chopping alot of other titles/people they could not get rid of otherwise.
Last comic book that I bought was the surprise gay origin of the revamped Alan Scott aka Green Lantern. I was so pissed I haven’t bought anything other than 1 or 2 compilations of older comic stories. The New 52 was a joke. This has been a long time coming. I hate what they’ve done to comic books in general, but it’s still a relief that the house of cards is finally tumbling.
Its crazy that despite plummeting sales and disaffected fanbase they’ve decided to double down on their agenda over actually giving the fans what they want…
And now look!
