Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Friday signed a bill to dissolve Walt Disney World’s private government…

The only corporation that HAD such a “private corporation” in the US.

The move could have huge tax implications for Disney, whose series of theme parks have transformed Orlando into one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations…

Disney now has to PAY taxes to the state of Florida, instead of to itself.

The entertainment giant has not commented publicly on the proposal to dissolve its government, which has been in operation for 55 years.

They must know their time has come, and their special status (which only they have had), had to come to an end sooner or later.

The bill, which the Legislature passed on Thursday and DeSantis signed into law on Friday, would eliminate the Reedy Creek Improvement District, as the Disney government is known, as well as a handful of other similar districts by June 2023.

And what else does the bill do?

The measure does allow for the districts to be reestablished, leaving an avenue for Disney and lawmakers to renegotiate their deal between now and June 2023.

What of those opposed to this bill?

Although details are far from clear, the proposal could have huge tax implications for Disney. Democratic state lawmakers who oppose the bill also have warned that it could result in homeowners getting hit with big tax bills if they have to absorb costs the company used to pay.

“could”  not that it will, only it COULD!

What they don’t say is that Disney will have to pay their share of TAXES to Florida.

Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, whose county is partially home to Disney World, said it would be “catastrophic for our budget” if the county had to assume the costs for public safety at the theme park resort. Reedy Creek currently reimburses the Orange County Sheriff’s Office for public safety costs.

Go into any mall, and who pays for security?  The Mall’s owners (via the tenants rent)!

Any resort, any cruise line, any airline (airport), train, etc. ALL have to hire/pay for their own security personal.

Other corporations have either inhouse security or hires a security firm for those needs.

Disney will have to do the same thing now.  If they want security in the theme parks, they will have to HIRE THEM THEMSELVES.  Be it a private firm, in-house, or hire out to the local sheriffs, DISNEY will be paying for it.

    This is pure free-mongering.

“If that district goes away, and they no longer pay for those public safety costs, and it then has to fall to the county’s other budgets, that is a net sum loss to the rest of the taxpayers of Orange County,” Demings said.

“NO longer pay…” then they no longer get.  If they want security and other safety issues, then they, like any other company, will be PAYING for it on their PRIVATE property.

The Reedy Creek Improvement District, as the Disney government is known, has been allowed to build its own roads, run its own wastewater treatment plants, operate its own fire department, set its own building codes and inspect Disney buildings for safety.

And you will be getting Disney’s property taxes.  And just like any property taxes, they help cover public expenses.

So Disney will now have to PAY for those services, like everyone else.

And now they can’t set their own building codes.  They will have to follow the rules everyone else then has to.

Just like any other corporation, you will still have your own engineers looking over your buildings/structures on your private property.  You need to fix a bathroom, that is DISNEY’s expenses.  To replace a broken fence in the theme park is STILL a DISNEY expense.

But now they will have to follow/allow state health and safety inspectors within the parks.  State laws will (when applicable) will be enforced.

Disney will have to follow the rules like every other company!

The company sold the idea to Florida lawmakers in 1967 as part of its plans to build an expansive East Coast theme park that would include a futuristic city.

The city never materialized, but Walt Disney World nevertheless became an entertainment juggernaut in Orlando, while still retaining governmental powers that have allowed it to decide what and how to build and to issue bonds and provide services such as zoning, fire protection and utilities.

That power will no longer be.

They will now have to follow all state/federal laws.  Want to expand, an environmental impact study will now be done!  As well as any other hopes all other corporations MUST jump thru.

Want to replace something, same rules now apply!

Welcome to the 21st Century Disney!

This also means that Disney will need to get things they want to build approved by the city beforehand, like everyone else does. Not having to do this has given Disney an unfair advantage over everyone else

For example, Universal announced their Florida park in 1986. Disney quickly announced their own movie studio park in 1987. However, because of Disney’s special privileges (along with some other factors), they managed to get their park (Hollywood Studios) open in 1989, one year before Universal opened theirs

Of course, I would much rather everyone gets their own governmental powers, not having to go through the government to do things. However, because it’s Disney, I say fuck them

As a long time Disney fan…even this is putting a smile on my face. I’m not always crazy about every announcement that they’ve made over the years. What they’re saying against the Florida bill however is where I draw the line with them. Disney; you’re meant to be a family friendly company. Act like one!

This is going to hurt them in many many ways…. It also means they MUST take bids for any road and infrastructure work on now city property and so on. People do not understand how diversified Disney was in FL. they had all their own everything. Now they will have to Play Fair and pay fair.  Their stock is crashing now 24% over the last month I believe and 36% since firing Gina. All because they went Woke.

Shareholders I have spoken too (i use to be one) are beyond pissed, We are talking BILLIONS lost. They want the Board Chairman, CEO and Kennedy fired immediately. This story aint close to being over. They are talking about legal action as well toward the company for costing them so much.

I’m not surprised that they want Kennedy out. Most people I know want her out after what she did to Star Wars! I can’t believe this woman helped produce the original ‘Land Before Time’ film back in the day (and I’m betting that if it had been just her without Frank Marshall’s involvement, Littlefoot’s mother wouldn’t have died halfway through the film!) and a few other animated films that I enjoyed back then!

Also, that was a very interesting read too!

The collapse has begun. And I couldn’t be happier. I stopped paying for anything Disney related two or so years ago. They get none of my money. I will never go to Disneyland or Disney World. I have never gone anyway. Not interested in over-priced merch and food for a few hours of “fun” when I can do it for less than 50 bucks right here where I live. The Star Wars park looks like a poorly done glorified shopping mall with an arcade. Zero interest.

Disney are full of themselves. They are over-run by activists who used tactics right out of the communist manifesto to infiltrate and take it over. What they did to Gina. What they did to Johnny. Utterly unacceptable, and the consequences are starting to fall upon them. COVID imo was a good thing in the end. It is helping to bring these corporations down and shine a light into the reality so many refuse to acknowledge in their Twitter paradise.

Honestly, I am not sure Disney cares.  Why?  If Twitter is any kind of example, they no longer care about making money.  It’s all about pushing the propaganda.  Now 3 months ago I would have thought myself crazy for saying that about Disney.  But not now.

Disney has not cared in about 10 years about keeping Walt’s visions and dream alive.  Maybe even further back then that. When was the last time Disney made a true Family Friendly Movie with no Politics or Agenda in it?  1994 Lion King maybe?

No way you can say Disney has been Disney after 2012.

Double edged sword. On one hand I don’t like when government breaks its agreements with private entities or punishes people or businesses for their political stance. And that’s exactly what’s happening here. The De Santis government is punishing Disney for opposing it.
On the other hand, Democrats do the same thing all the time.
And Disney itself is a corrupt, vile, evil entity full of communists, pedos, racists and the worst scum of the Earth.

So long as they are only treated the same as all other private corporations or theme parks, this is okay. Equal treatment for everyone is good.
