Supposedly, Joaquin Phoenix is being offered fifty million dollars by Warner Bros. to reprise his role as Arthur Fleck in two more Joker sequels. The rumor says that two Joker sequels are planned for 2022 and 2024.

What do you think? Personally, I would rather have Joker just be a stand-alone film.

If Joaquin Phoenix plays Arthur Fleck again and if Todd Phillips directs it again then I don’t see how it could be bad. Maybe it’s not possible to outdo the first one because the expectations are too high now, but I’d like to see them try. Performance-wise it could only be better because there’ll be less winging it and a clearer understanding of the character and the direction.

I would only be down for sequels if it tied into The Batman…but it can’t as modern cell phones were seen during filming. I get they’re pushing a multiverse, but having at least three (potential) Batman franchises going all at once seems a bit much. Let it be one and done.

It was always planned as being a stand-alone film.

    One and done.

What else do they have to explore?

How the Joker is able to get so many followers/henchmen, even when they see how they are treated by him?

How does the Joker get the skills/knowledge to make his joker-toxins?  How does he get his immunity to his own toxins and toxins in general?

This they can all do BEFORE the need to tie into the main DCEU (or the Batman character at all).

And in the comics, they are currently talking about there being THREE Jokers.  Are they going to touch on that?

Also in the comics, they had talked about the history between Batman and the Joker goes way way back.  (And not as that farce gotham high), but with the Joker knowing Batman’s identity almost since the start, yet up until “Joker War”, never used that knowledge directly against Batman’s financing.  Sure they had that one story arc where the Joker attacked the Bat-Family as deminishing Batman legacy  (was in the batcave and in wayne manor – kidnapping Alfred, etc.)

I do hope they leave it un-connected to the Batman and the DCEU in general.

I don’t know if I want Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker to be the next version to go against Batman.

Would it not be interesting? I have a hard time imagining them going head-to-head, which is precisely why I’m interested in the idea. There’s a lot of potential for it being refreshingly different to other Batman/Joker movies. I think the actor playing the new Batman has the right look to match Joaquin Phoenix.

Personally, I would rather have Joker just be a stand-alone film.

    Same.

Joker was like lightning in a bottle. I’d rather see similar films on other DC characters. A series of standalone movies would be much better for DC to fulfill their own niche than trying to copy Marvel.
