Lola Bunny will appear less feminine in Space Jam 2.

This raises a lot of questions. Before I delve into those, I will disclaim that I think it’s fine to desexualize characters for children. I don’t mean ambiguous asexuality like in Spongebob. But generally romanticized desexualization like Rugrats, Hey Arnold, Arthur and so on.

      The questions.

      1. What does it mean to desexualize a character?

      2. What if the character has already been established and part of a long history of this type of behavior and it’s accepted that that is who they are?

      3. Is desexualize sex shaming? Is it teaching children sex is wrong?

      4. Or is this attempting to blur the lines between femininity and masculinity to the point of destroying both?

      The background (my perspective)

I grew up in a pretty conservative household. This is not the conservatism some would presume. Islamic conservatism is similar to Christian conservatism. Half of my family we’re Christians and the other half Muslims living in the culturally liberal state of Connecticut. This means…it was incredibly mixed.

At the end of the day like it or not, I was raised under traditional conservative values. There are many things I liked and probably even more that I disliked. All of it combined with my political experience going forward is what made me the apolitical person I am today.

I thought Space Jam was a dumb movie when it came out and had wished I could have unseen it. I’m not a fan of mixing cartoons with reality. Secondly, the plot was stupid. I’m not gonna elaborate and defend that in this OP as it’s besides the point.

Sex shaming is a real thing where I come from. Being taught, ingrained to not look at women. To not speak with them. This is a concept that you’d think was only from the conservative side, the Muslim side especially, but it is also reinforced in liberalism. “:O what tari?!? That’s heresy!” No. It is the truth. Let me explain.

I have always viewed politics in the U.S. as such: Democrats will stab you in the back and Republicans will stab you in the front. In other words, one group lies to your face and the other tells it as they believe. Doesn’t make any side better or more honest. It’s as simple as that. A Republican president will tell everyone they are bombing a country. A Democrat president will lie and say they aren’t and how peaceful they are, and then bomb a country…or in my life experience, more countries than I can count.

These concepts are in grained at the roots. Conservatism is standing for what you believe in. Liberalism is creating a stance whether you believe in it or not.

It has always been a point in my lifespan that sex shaming is ingrained in liberal culture as “sexual accusations.” Read separately from rape and sexual assault, there is sexual harassment. At face value it appears honest and straight forward. Don’t sexually harass others. Don’t harass period. Sometimes it doesn’t feel that it’s as face value as it appears.

Sometimes it seems that sexual harassment encompasses a larger opinion that males should not approach females whatsoever unless they are invited to do so, and perhaps not even then.

If someone is made uncomfortable, it is not enough to simply break things off and either distance or communicate and talk things out. Things are propelled toward character assassination and a push to lock up the accused for presumably…forever? This could be as simple as verbally expressing attraction. Words today like “hey, you’re cute!” can almost be spun around as “that person wants to rape me!”

Why? Why has society moved towards this? Why are things no longer innocent? Why is there presumably the worst intention behind everything?

Is Lola bunny being desexualized because it is presumed young boys will grow up to become sexual predators if she is sexy? Is it because the concepts of femininity and masculinity are attempting to be destroyed? What is the real aim with all of this?

The article in newsweek states it is to make female characters appear more realistic. Realistic? Generally speaking women are not flat chested and besides, Lola is already established! Does that mean a future Batman could be old and fat? Muscular dystrophy? No. Please don’t go to Batman Beyond and destroy him like that. Even then he appeared quite capable of defending himself. That’s an entirely different subject I’d love to go into but I’ll leave it here.

      Let’s see.

      We can’t have breasts.

      We can’t have defined legs/calfs.

I am surprised its hair is not purple (head and armpits – as they can have hair pits and colored one too now a days).

So where is the black lips?  The tattoos?  The piercings?

So Lola Bunny decided to drop the padded bra in favor of borrowing one of Bugs Bunny’s basketball jerseys?? Literally who gives a shit!

        Apparently SJWs do 😂

Why is there presumably the worst intention behind everything?

This one question could sum up your whole post, and the answer to it is: control

The more people think the world’s a dangerous place, the easier it is to control them

This isn’t a strategy only used on a large scale by SJWs, the media, whoever holds some amount of power

I’ve been told just because I wanted to go to a friend’s house, just because I wanted to take the bus “go and get raped”, and I heard that shit come out of the mouth of my own mother

All this “desexualizing” of adult women, men not being allowed to talk to women, it’s all just fear mongering

I just literally grilled a salty moron via Discord who apparently has no issues with Woke media and just cherry picked my critique just to bitch about it. SMH. The NPC infection is ridiculous.

I’m sure the furry community is devastated about this redesign.

Also, how are they going to explain this? Did Lola get a breast reduction between movies?

Haha the furry community. Omg thank goodness they didn’t go in that direction. The reimagining of Cats is disastrous to me.

As for explanations, I have always seen Space Jam 2 as sort of a reboot hybrid. It’s a sequel made decades later (who does this??) which will later be retconned like Terminator Dark Fate when everyone realizes it wasn’t really a sequel at all.

@digicat That literally sounds like things that were said to me from my own childhood.

movie going to suck anyway… there’s only one space jam… just like there’s only one nba goat, his name is Michael Jordan.

I miss basketball. NBA always sucked though. Especially as a kid to watch. College Basketball was always INCREDIBLY more fun. I don’t know why.

The worst thing about this is that I have to side with fuckin’ furries. haha

For me, if this was isolated, I would think nothing about it but with the constant vilifying of attractive females in everything, this bothers me.

I wasnt going to watch it anyway, though, because the sight of Lebron James makes me want to punch the nearest thing to me.

I think what it is, is they believe problems today in the work-sphere are caused by gender differences so they are trying to eliminate gender by introducing more gender and calling it “equality.” In this sphere of genderism lacks the fundamental foundational genders…male and female. I mean, why aren’t male and female included on the LGBTQ+ spectrum? I could almost understand if it were limited to the original LGBT spectrum because it was limited in scope. But at some point, the spectrum was broadened to include more.

This seems like it was always constructed as an US vs THEM invention where there must be two sides and one can never be a part of the other. Sort of like race theory today. You can have black pride/black power and that’s fine and acceptable but white isn’t.

Personally, I’m against self pride in anything because I don’t think it’s virtuous. I think it’s divisive. I think it causes people to cling to their circles and is non inclusive. It creates scenarios, many scenarios where an individual feels they are not “IN” because they aren’t cool enough to sit at the “cool kids” table. Or the jock’s table. Or the nerd’s table. Or whatever imaginary table people decide to create because they always believe that when they aren’t welcome somewhere, the answer is to create further segregation than we had before. And it isn’t right. And it isn’t fair.

Yep. We’ve seen this too many times in the animation, comics and videogame industry to know it’s not an unintentional choice.  They seem hellbent on turning mature female characters into androgynous 13 year olds.   I can imagine them all having resetera accounts and creating threads crying about the toxic male gaze, anytime a female is presented as having curves.

Good God, Lola looks so incredibly stale. NPCs really can’t make a decent female design to save their selves but what can you expect from the creativity-retardant?

                  #212762

NPC’s hate the masculine and the feminine.

                  It has to be androgynous.

So no curves (and definitely no breasts), and no muscles.
