Didn’t see a thread here so I thought I’d start a thread on the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. If everyone is cool with it, I’ll try to make it weekly.

    This Week’s Cards:

Legacy 107: Kirk vs. Swain (Fight Pass)

OneFC: Dangal (B/R Live @ Youtube)

UFC 262: Oliveira vs Chandler (Main @ PPV, Prelims @ ESPN)

Notes: There are usually 3 to 4 cards a week some starting early as Thurs. The way I have it written is the card name and (where you can watch the card). If you really want to start to get in-depth in the fight game, I recommend following several smaller promotions. It’ll let you get familiar with the nuts and bolts of the sport. Things like technique, rule sets, fight schools, and the overall feel of the sport will become clear and flow after a couple of months.

One FC is a promotion to look out for internationally. They not only offer MMA fights but have held caged Muay Thai fights on their cards as well. So if you’re looking to get into MT, One is the place for you. Dangal is an okay card, it’s developed to showcase the new Indian talent showing up among the fighter ranks, several from Super Fight League. I would have gone with a better and more competitive headlight fight than Vera/Bhullar. Everyone who follows the sport knows that Vera is old and at the very least, Bhullar will grind him out. Other than that, pretty decent card.

The UFC card is the star of the week, Not only is Chandler/Oliveira an intriguing match-up to headline, but you also have some interesting fights for ranking as well as several “Make you famous” match-ups as well. Keep your eyes out for fighters like Jacare, Barboza as well as the fight between Ferguson and Dariush. Total banger card top to bottom.

    Stories of Importance:

UFC releases Diego Sanchez with pay due to Harassment from Diego’s trainer, Joshua Fabia. The community is concerned with Sanchez’s wellbeing. (mini-docs by BJJScout)

No-Gii BJJ Champ Gordon Ryan to debut in MMA at OneFC facing Shinya Aoki

Notes: The situation with Diego along with the situation with Jake Paul is starting to show a problem with becoming a stepping stone for other people’s validity. If not taken care of, others with following the lead and will syphon notoriety from the sport until moves are taken. While the sport will survive, its credibility will be in question.

Website of the Week: Tapology – Seems my first website offering is the one that helps me keep the most in-depth. The site offer fighter analysis, a news ticker to keep you on top of your game as well as a fantasy bet format and ranking on who guesses the best result. Definitely my go-to toolbox in the sport.

P/Vodcast of the week: Morning Kombat – A channel run by Wash. DC’s favorite son Luke Thomas. I have been following him since the MMA Media “Gold Rush” when he formed Bloody Elbow. Probably the only guy to survive the Gold Rush. He brings a well-nuanced look into the sport from amateurs on up. Don’t let the large vernacular scare you. He knows his stuff.

Thanks for reading. Hope to see you next week.
