This is very true and if you stir in fear to that you get the most powerful motivators there is.
I suspect this is what happened in Germany in the 30’s. They were in a bad way due to WW1. From what I understand at that time, it’s was very rough going for the average German and they were still upset about WW1 culturally. So in comes someone, loud and charismatic, promising he knows the way and he can solve their issues and well it’s all because of THESE types of people. And if they all just let him do his thing he can make it all better.
The scary part about my over simplistic description is that very same general set of events are ripe to happen here and now based on the level of misery being imposed and even worldwide if you look at it. Not only could a would-be dictator get himself invited to the stage right now, that stage could be an international one and that has Biblical anti-Christ written all over it.
” But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.”– 2 Timothy 3:1-5
