Some years back I found an e-book from a new author named Joshua Dalzelle Called Omega Rising.
The book follows the exploits of a former air force enlisted man who finds himself on a damaged alien spacecraft. The first book is some 200 pages and its fast paced so unlike some things it really grabs you. Recently the 11th book in the series has been released, and they are now print on demand after book 9.
This series has a direct spinoff which I think has 2 books printed so far. The author also has another deep space series in an alternate universe where all of humanity has reached the stars and are faced with a galactic war from an invasion. That one is called black fleet its first book was Warship. I think that series is complete at 6 books. The combat in this has a feel like how submarine naval warfare has been explained. Engagements feel like they take days instead of the other series where any engagement may take seconds.
