Chrissie Mayr said the point of any career is to be bigger than your fanbase. ESPN, like SportsIllustrated, jumped the shark a long time ago. Stephen A. Smith is cancer. Max Kellerman is worse. That Schaap guy is another one. There’s another guy I cant’ find who is kind of chubby with a beard who has a show there and he is a weirdo. It’s been a while, but to think how far Keith Olbermann fell.
Not sure what happened to ESPN. It used to be kind of fun with reporters who just liked sports. I think money and status must have ruined it and they got way preachy. It happens to all the TV people. They get contracts and all of a sudden, they get a Xerxes complex. I miss the days of Stuart Scott and Chris Berman. Also, they mix it up well, but there is a bit of a geezer complex syndrome starting to creep in there. Dan Patrick is lame to me and he’s just old. Scott Van Pelt is overexposed. I don’t think fondly of the personalities, nor the network. Like other cable stations, there was too much propaganda over the years. I won’t ever go back to viewing it ever. Same with some of the leagues. Let the youth enjoy it, but I can’t understand anyone who is into sports after about age 30.
It hasn’t happened just yet, but I see the same thing starting to happen with influencers. They push propaganda for payola. They berate people on behalf of the rich class. The obvious example is TYT, but I mean the big Twitter people. It is very much a cult.
