A new rumor from WDW Pro on the WDW Magic forums says that Disney is looking to make a Luke Skywalker film entirely using CGI. This comes after (according to WDW Pro) a deal that Mark Hamill signed with Disney giving the rights to use his likeness in a CGI Luke Skywalker film. The rumor also says that this could be the starting point to exclusively making films using CGI, due to not wanting to be at this standstill they find themselves in again

Interesting indeed. I’ll have to look into this. Thanks!

I’m all for CGI animated movies that take place after Return of the Jedi, as long as they don’t hire hacks to write the stories and Kennedy stays away from it. Personally, I want Favreau to make a 2 part CGI animated adaptation of Shadows of the Empire and give us some Dash Rendar adventures.

I’m tired of Disney’s CGI movies. They all look the same with little to no variations. Almost every character looks the exact same and Disney/Pixar has a weird obsession of putting these cartoony CGI characters into realistic environments and it doesn’t mesh well at all. If they do make a CGI Star Wars movie, I probably won’t care unless it tried something different or innovative like Spider-Verse or The Lego Movie.

The rumor says this will be a hyper-realistic CGI movie (like the Jungle Book and Lion King remakes). So it’ll look like Mark Hamill in real life

I don’t care since Star Wars is dead

Unless they make the Thrawn trilogy I really dont give a fuck.

Disney did this to ensure they get the rights to Mark Hamill’s likeness/voice.

They had to get agreements with the estates of Peter Cushing to use his likeness.

IIRC, they had to do something similar with Carrie Fisher about de-aging digital likeness for Rogue One.

More and more studios will start doing this.

Also, several actors have already stated no one is allowed to use their likeness after their death.
