After seeing Anna That Star Wars Girl, doing a vid about Star Trek Uniforms, it got me thinking/looking.

If all the movies with the original stars used the colors from the original series, how would they look?

Which looks better?

Which would you rather have?

This is what the original series uniform colours where.

Here is what it was originally in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

Using the original series colours, we get:

I don’t know, but the recoloured image kinda looks OK, IMO.

What do you think?

I always liked the switch to all red. Made it all look more distinguished, more military.

And I always appreciated in TNG that when they did go back to color coding, they made red Command instead of yellow.

They are called uniforms for a reason. All teams have them. I like the soccer teams that have the sash symbol. Normally, you expect all same color, like home and away kits. Uniforms are intended to be all the same, like school uniforms, but even knowing this, I prefer the original.

After a brief survey, the color coding, according to rank and hierarchy, is preferred. Star Trek was supposed to kind of emulate the Navy in space, or am I wrong about that? Well, the Navy has divisions like the Navy Seals or the Navy Seabees. You have different tasks and operations and I like the color coding that would kind of structure the team for different group tasks. Just seems cool.

The fact that we are talking about the color of their uniforms goes to show how beloved that positive message of the future is. Which is why the new stuff is hated because it’s the opposite.

Personally I like the uniforms either way. All red OR color coded by job. In each use case they made it make sense. But that’s back when people could write a series and do something new.

I won’t lie, one of the reasons I watch Anna from time to time is she is adorable (inside and out). It’s not at all the only reason but it does not hurt :P
