For those wondering what I am talking about, some who have watched certain live-action special effects show (which is what Tokusatsu translates to) such as Gojira (prime example) or some of the other kaiju monsters would know what I am talking about.  However, there are references to this category in a few anime.  The only anime that I have come across that has done this (at least to my knowledge) is Keroro Gunso (Sgt. Frog) which made a reference to a certain Kamen Rider (Masked Rider in English).  Now…there is another anime that actually has it’s Tokusatsu roots that very few would know about if the anime was the only introduction to said show.  In fact…my avatar is the only hint about the show. For those who have heard of Garo: The Animation, the live-action show of its namesake started back in the early 2000s which then later spawned a couple of sequels, some movie tie-ins, a video game for the Japanese PS2, spin-offs, and yes…anime.  The first one had the setting of what appeared to be medieval Spain (or an interpretation of medieval settings so to speak).  The second adaptation Crimson Moon, unfortunately, didn’t have the same success as the first (which was set in a feudal Japan setting).  As for the third, titled Vanishing Line, this version is in my opinion possibly the closest reference to live-action since it is set in the modern world. (Based on what I just said, I pretty much gave away the fact that I am a huge fan of the show). That being said, what are some anime that has done references to Tokusatsu that I might have missed? (Super Sentai – Power Rangers, Metal Heroes, Kaiju, Kamen Rider).
