Trump indictment, things will never be the same

There are certain moments you can look back on in your life or even just history and say, well things really changed after that.
I believe today (Tuesday) when Trump is arraigned will be one of those times. Almost regardless of what happens the very fact a political opponent is being attacked by the rival political power is a moment we can never get back and one in which we will look back on as a time when things shifted.
Almost assuredly this will greatly deepen the divide in the country and will change politics forever. Going forward it will be common place to attack your political opponents openly using whatever governmental power you wield. From this point on any charges brought against a politician will be suspect even if they are legitimate.
Maybe we have been a banana republic for some time but clearly that fact is now undeniable.
Can the sickness within our system be fixed at this point? Yes. But an “exorcism” of that caliber will cause enough spams and violent shuddering of the possessed as to inflict pain on us all.
However, if people can put aside their “team memberships” and work together for the common good the swamp can indeed be drained and cleaned to the point where function is restored. Otherwise this country will be consumed by a selfish hatred that blinded the holders of it so badly they could not discern reality from fiction.
But the thing about reality is this. You can indeed ignore it and even run from it, but for only so long. Eventually, it WILL find you and it will be VERY unkind to you for having made it run you down.
“However, if people can put aside their “team memberships” and work together for the common good” That has never happened in history and will never happen. Group identity is everything. That’s why we have nations. Except the US and Canada which are corporate slave states without a shared genetic identity.
“Can the sickness within our system be fixed at this point?” No, because the sickness is an inherent consequience of the melting pot idea behind the US.
The divide will continue until there is either a peaceful split (never gonna happen), or one side eradicates or enslaves the other. There is no other conceivable outcome. The population of the US will never be “united” again. It’s too ideologically and ethnically diverse for that. You can’t coexist with people who don’t want to live under the same rules.
