I agree Twitter isn’t for kids. I also contend to never ever ever give Twitter one’s phone number or home address. The blue check mark isn’t worth it, imo. I disable direct messages and all “discoverability” options, and I use a gmail email address on all social media sites (including this one) which forwards email to my personal email account. I recommend muting people vs. blocking them, because people can’t tell when they are muted. And no, “Wu BeeBee” isn’t my real name.
With such precautions, adults should have sufficient wisdom, self control and discipline to use social media for positive reasons and remain unscathed by the scum deep within.
Check out this Twitter account, for example. This is the account of the person who made the amazing animated intro to Friday Night Tights. This guy deserves support from Geeks + Gamers!

Twitter can be useful and interesting. Take it or leave it, but whether it is dangerous & detrimental or not depends entirely on me and you, the users (again, kids excepted).
