There seems to be some overall theme prevailing now that we should accept everyone’s choices and cerebrate them.  That’s what fair weather friends do because agreement is easy.  When you actually care about someone you are willing to do the hard thing and tell them you think they are wrong and are maybe making a poor choice that will harm them.  You love them enough to risk having them reject you and making you feel bad.

This situation cannot be anymore clear with the relationship between a parent and child.  If you are an uncaring parent you let your children do what they please because you don’t care about the consequences. When you are a loving parent you will fight your children tooth and nail to try to help them and teach them without any concern for your feelings or well being.

Selfless love IS love and it takes work and it is hard.  Giving a pass to anyone for anything is a coward’s game.

“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”–1 Corinthians 13:4-7
