I’m dating myself but my first anime was Yamato (Starblazers)
My introduction to Anime was Dragonball, Sailor Moon, G Gundam, Cowboy Bebop, Tri-Gun, Yu-Gi-Oh Outlaw Star, YuYu Hakusho, Beyblade, Medabots, Rurouni Kenshin, Inuyasha, Medabots, SD Gundam Force, Cyborg 009, Astroboy when I was a kid. Even though I wasn’t an Anime fan during my childhood until I reached my teens.
Hmm, I think it was Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Digimon, Dragonball (and Z too), Yu-Gi-Oh and Detective Conan. They were all airing on german channel RTL2 back in the day. Ahh, the memories…
That was literally last century lol
Space Battleship Yamato? Nice.
It has been entirely too many moons ago, since I first started watching Anime, to be able to remember what my first was.
This was back around 1987, before most of us had internet, when I was renting movies at Blockbuster and almost all anime was still massive destruction, lots of explosions, tons of TnA, and none of the stereotypical story lines that almost EVERY show has in it now.
Some of them that I remember renting tho. The old Original Fist of the North Star. Geist/Most Dangerous Geist, Devilman, Tank Police, Guyver, etc. I think my all time fave is kind of a toss up between Guyver, and Bastard! Tho that one is kinda cheesy now a days.
I dunno if it’s still airing on Nutlicks (Netflix) or not, but they did a reboot of Voltron. If you haven’t seen it, DO NOT WATCH IT.
I think it’s like 8 seasons long. But it is SJW central. The male characters are pretty much the comedy relief sideshows. They transgendered Pidge. Princess Allura and the bad “guys” are all overpowered Mary Sue’s.
Oh, and at the very end, they finally gave in, and ‘shipped Keith into a gay marriage.
Sad. So, so very sad.
I had a girlfriend who was very much into Ranma 1/2. I was a lot more into action type stuff at the time, so I kinda thought it was kinda tame. But it’s actually pretty good. Definitely funny. I’ll still catch episodes of it here and there. I don’t remember how many seasons it ran for, but I know I haven’t watched more than season 2.
Good show tho :)
i would come home from school and watch dragon ball, dragon ball z, pokemon, digimon,
Star Blazers (Space Battleship Yamato) for me. I wasn’t even familiar with the term anime back then but I loved that show! The opening theme, haunting music, sound effects, cool battle scenes and all those great lines from Desslok (Superbly delivered by Eddie Allen) still resonate after all these years.
Not knowing it was anime: Pokemon, Sailor Moon, Yu-Gi-Oh, and all the Toonami shows.
Knowing it was anime: Naruto, Inuyasha, and others…
For me was probably Saint Seiya in the early 90’s
The first Anime i ever watched was Pokemon, Sailor Moon and Digimon, but back then i didn’t knew what Anime was, what really introduced me to the world of AMAZING Anime was Dragon Ball Z, Yu-gi-oh and Naruto, now i am TOTALLY a Weeb XD (yes i have a Body Pillow too)
I started watching Speed Racer when my parents were renting VHS tapes from Blockbuster to keep my brother and I entertained. We loved it so much, that my dad saw that MTV was playing episodes past our bedtime, so he would record episodes for us to watch. I didn’t know it was anime at the time, but it was a rather enjoyable part of my childhood.
I got into Sailor Moon when I was in middle school. It was the anime that turned me into a fan. I then started watching SciFi Channel when they had Apollo Smile VJ anime aired during the summer. I was introduced to non-shoujo-y stuff. I started watching Robotech during the Toonami run and that got me into giant robots and mecha. I was really into getting to know different genres. I was more on the shoujo and giant robot side. I wasn’t really into harem-centric anime save for a few (ie: Tenchi).
Before I knew what the word “anime” was:
Robotech, Voltron, Spainish DBZ, and Street Fighter II: The Movie
After I learned what the word “anime means:
Akira, Fatal Fry: The Movie, Sailor Moon, and English DBZ
