Freedom of Speech is like the life water of a Western Liberal Democracy. The soil is the Western Liberal Democracy and when Freedom of Speech falls upon it like rain….the crops of Progressive Change happen.
It was and is Freedom of Speech that Dr. Martin Luther King. Jr used to get racial rights for all people during the Civil Rights Movement whether they were white, black, Asian, or any race.
It was also Freedom of Speech that allowed the first feminists to speak to their male counterparts that they were Human too and deserved to be treated as equals rather than be treated as some man’s trophy in his home.
It was Freedom of Speech that the LGBT movement used to express to the world that they had a right to finalize their love in the simple ceremony of marriage.
And it is Freedom of Speech that you all reading this are able to say hello to your neighbours whether or not they are of your walk of life or a completely different one.
Freedom of Speech is what makes life possible for all individuals and all groups to express and celebrate who they are without judgement from others to live dreams that only a free and open society can grant.
To silence Freedom of Speech is madness and would only lead to much silent suffering of millions upon trillions of people world wide who are now without a voice to express what troubles them in their lives.
And silencing one’s voice would only lead to people fighting like savage mindless beasts instead of communicating and coming to a more peaceful coexistence like a civilized society.
I do understand that some people will argue with me that Freedom of Speech can be used for bad things too like someone saying something sexist or racist about someone else but Freedom of Speech can also be used to oppose the bad parts of Speech also.
Freedom of Speech allows individuals in society the power to express both good and bad aspects of any argument.
Like people, speech has good and bad in it which gives speech balance as speech is from nature like we are.
To silence Freedom of Speech is to silence nature along with all life.
Once Freedom pf Speech is gone there is no way to get it back and the silence of suffering begins that leads to the eventually fall of society.
So please people reading this learn of what Freedom of Speech is and why it is important and precious along with why we must preserve it not just for us but for our children and our children’s children’s children.
What we do now determines the future for all who may or may not come after us.
