Is Taylor Swift in Deadpool 3?

Is Deadpool 3 aiming to dazzle modern music fans? A rumor about the upcoming sequel has gained a lot of traction in the last twenty-four hours, but not because of anything official. The rumor was that pop superstar Taylor Swift would appear in the film as Dazzler, an X-Men character who has so far only made a cameo on the big screen. Swift was spotted at Sunday’s football game between the New York Jets and the Kansas City Chiefs, and she was with Deadpool 3 stars Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, as well as director Shawn Levy. Jackman posted a picture of himself, Swift, Reynolds, and Reynolds’ wife, Blake Lively, from the game:

Taylor Swift Deadpool

Of course, this isn’t hard evidence. Maybe Swift is just friends with one of them – she’s sitting next to Blake Lively in a picture taken by the New York Post, not Reynolds or Jackman. And the movie is not filming right now because of the actors’ strike, so they couldn’t have come from the set. But having them all in the same place, especially with Shawn Levy, is very conspicuous. And Deadpool 3 is set to have lots of appearances from various actors and other famous people as different Marvel characters, particularly ones whose film rights were owned by 20th Century Fox before its acquisition by Disney. Levy even confirmed that some of the rumored cameos were true, being sure to include “singers.” Again, that isn’t confirmation, but Swift showing up in Deadpool 3 is starting to look likely.

And that’s fine. I don’t have strong feelings about Taylor Swift one way or the other. If you put a gun to my head, I don’t think I could identify one of her songs; like Barbie, I just kind of assume they’re not for me. And I doubt she’ll have a huge role in Deadpool 3; Reynolds and Jackman look like they’re the main players, with the deluge of alternate-universe characters probably set for cameos. If I had my way, I’d have Halston Sage return as Dazzler; she was only a cameo herself in Dark Phoenix, and I’m not dying to see Dazzler on the screen or anything, but I like Sage and would like to see her in something meaty. (I love The Orville dearly, but its biggest mistake was writing her character, Alara, off the show.) And a Swift appearance will probably be played for laughs, with Deadpool making some fourth-wall-breaking cracks about her music career or dating history. But it’s fun to speculate.
