Moonfall Teaser Promises More Roland Emmerich Destruction

Roland Emmerich is preparing to give Earth what for again as Lionsgate has released an announcement teaser for Moonfall, his latest epic sci-fi blockbuster. Moonfall finds our planet in danger when the moon is knocked out of its orbit and sent rocketing towards us, with only a ragtag group of unlikely heroes to stop it. Directed by Emmerich, Moonfall stars Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson, Michael Peña, John Bradley, and Donald Sutherland; Stanley Tucci and Josh Gad were originally cast but were replaced by Peña and Bradley. Moonfall is set to hit theaters on February 4, 2022. Check out the Moonfall teaser below:

That’s my kind of trailer. The Moonfall teaser gives almost nothing away while giving the potential audience a great hook – what if the moon threatened Earth? – a taste of the special effects, and a glimpse of the cast, particularly Halle Berry and Patrick Wilson. I wish they’d stop right here and let us experience the rest of it for ourselves, but I’m sure we’ll know the entire plot and all the best one-liners by the time the film releases. I had no idea this movie was happening, but I’m excited. Moonfall looks like a film from Rolland Emmerich’s heyday in the 90s (and, to a lesser extent, early 2000s). His output was almost always derided as being “dumb” and “empty spectacle” (by the people who consider anything more enjoyable than a documentary about how boxes are made to be low art), but he could make some fun and truly gripping popcorn films. He had some lousy ones, like 1998’s Godzilla and 2004’s The Day After Tomorrow, but Independence Day, Stargate, Universal Soldier, and The Patriot are all fantastically entertaining movies with human and relatable characters, even if they’re not overly complex. This is the kind of nostalgia I wish Hollywood would embrace rather than remakes or stuff set in the 80s that can’t stop letting you know they’re set in the 80s – new, original movies that are reminiscent of the kind they used to make. I also wish they had enough faith in Moonfall to release it in the summer, preferably on the July 4 weekend. But, regardless, I’m all set to see Emmerich try to thrill audiences again.

What did you think of the Moonfall teaser? Do you like any of Rolland Emmerich’s films? Will he mock modern internet critics the way he did Siskel and Ebert in Godzilla? Let us know in the comments and stick around Geeks + Gamers for more movie news!

I love The Patriot. That’s an amazing movie.

I have a request; you are very much a MCU expert; would consider ranking all MCU movies? They would be some cool read!

Thank you very much! I watch The Patriot every 4th of July; I also try to fit in Moscow on the Hudson and, the last couple of years, Captain America: The First Avengers. I once threw on Team America as well.

As for ranking the MCU, it’s difficult because I don’t really know how I’d rank a lot of them. I could put one over another on different days; there’s just so many of them. It’s like trying to rank all the Bond movies. But I do have a top five for Bond films, so I could maybe try to whittle down the MCU to a top 5 and a bottom 5.

Now that you mention First Avenger, I have a fun fact; Captain America: The First Avenger is very underrated and it’s actually my very fave MCU movie (yep, I enjoyed it even more from Winter Soldier and Civil War.)

I like it more every time I watch it. It’s a great origin for Cap, and its DNA is in every one of his subsequent appearances. Phase 1 of the MCU is pure magic.

Why do I suddenly wish Roland Emmerich directed a Transformers movie with Unicron as the main villain? I mean, this Moonfall trailer was pretty reminiscent of the opening scene from 1986 animated film. I’m just saying!
