      Cult Classics of the 80’s

There just some movies that even now I hit the breaks and just end up watching and till smile when I do. Here are a few of mine and kicking it off with the one that did it today.

Xanadu, ok if you were a boy in the 80’s you did not care about the Movie you watched for one reason and she was it.

      Then there was:
“Eddie and the Cruisers” oh ya and “EDDIE LIVES”
Streets of Fire….. A true 80’s RocknRoll fantasy
      Fame
      Who framed Roger Rabbit
      Dune 1984
      Labyrinth
      Flash Gordon.

Ok so what are some of yours?

Before I start my list of favorite 80s movies, I need to ask once and for all, what does cult classic mean exactly?? 😅 I’ve literally heard this term being used forever, but never got why it’s a cult classic and not just a classic ???

Here are some of my favorite 80s movies:

Star Wars Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi

        Gremlins

        The Breakfast Club

        Coming To America

Back To The Future 1 and 2

        The Shining

        Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

Also, I got to watch Who Framed Roger Rabbit in the drive-in last summer 📺🚗🐰

          cult classic
          n.
A work of fiction that is extremely popular with a select audience but may or may not be successful at the time of the work’s original publication.

Xanadu for instance barely made anything in the Box Office and Streets of Fire flopped, they have been very popular too a small “cult” but have since become successful with age to a much broader audiance. Taking them to the Cult Classic which actually makes them more popular now than at release.  These would also be movies people had not heard about because how “bad” they were at the time but now people are finding and really liking them

Basically proving later down the road critics were wrong as Nostalgia for an era shows how truly good a show or music was.

Empire, was and is a block buster of Gigantic proportion and in no way would be looked at as a “CULT” classic. Same with Breakfast,

A “cult classic” is a film that wasn’t popular or well regarded in it’s time but has developed loyal following over the years.

80’s films that probably would fall under the cult classic label: Flash Gordon, Motel Hell, Ms .45, Blade Runner, Videodrome, Toxic Avenger, Repo Man, Brazil, The Hitcher, Rad, Near Dark, Barfly, Miracle Mile, Heathers, Killer Klowns from Outer Space, UHF,  and so on…

            OMG REPOMAN…. lmao,
Flash Gordon I still chuckle at and watch, lord it was stupid but you can sit back and let the brain cells relax. Big Trouble in Little China was another that you could just enjoy.

RIP Freddy, there will never be another like you and nothing will ever match Wimbley

Evil Dead 1 & 2. So ridiculously cheesy and yet so great.

I would’ve said about ‘The Breakfast Club being one of my faves.

(This artwork I did through a 80’s themed wallpaper app which lets you do your own wallpaper and there’s even a awesome synthwave radio on it too!):

              The Breakfast Club Retro Wallpaper

There’s also a lot of Disney films that are now considered cult classics including ‘The Black Cauldron’ which is Disney’s most darkest film aside from ‘The Hunchback of Notre-Dame’ back in 1996.

@Dragonlady, kinda shocked on the Cauldron, I actually thought “The Black Hole” was darker, Hunchback was another good one. Your breakfast club art is More what I would envisioned being from southern Cali, nicely done.

Oh and probably the biggest cult classic of the 80’s now more popular than ever.

Thanks! The app I used is called ‘Retrowave Wallpapers’. As I’ve said, it’s a really good app and the radio is cool too. I like to listen to it and think that I’m in the 80’s even though I was born in 1989 so, yeah, I missed out on the 80’s😅😥.

This is another one I did but for the mobile wallpaper size:

80’s had the best movie soundtracks… maybe not the best movies but they new how to do soundtracks and Music…. No auto-tune, no lipsync and it defined the times. Remember we also had Freddy and Jason

For an 80’s cult classic I would have:

                    Conan The Barbarian (1982)

                    MV5BMWIxMzQxZjAtMGFkNC00NzYwLWFiMGEtNzZhZjE5MmFiMmMyL2ltYWdlL2ltYWdlXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyMTQxNzMzNDI@._V1_UY1200_CR85,0,630,1200_AL_

Along with The Sword and the Sorcerer (1982)

                    MV5BYTZiYjJmYjktNzNiMC00OTgzLWIwYTktYThlZWQ4ODA0MGUwXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNzc5MjA3OA@@._V1_

Both had a great film score, great action/fight scenes, and have become much beloved years AFTER their theatrical release.

Streets of Fire….. A true 80’s RocknRoll fantasy

Love this movie. How did this not do well but then again, I could say the same thing to Starship Troopers but that was for the 90s. I don’t know if Big Trouble in Little China or They Live count as cult classics but they’re definitely some of my favorites.
