So my wife was sneaky and bought me a a Series S. The last 4 – 5 months she had been asking about newer consoles but I told her they were hard to find and a bit out of budget at the moment.
I was checking on the shipping status of something and I spoiled the surprise. I’ve been more of PS /Nintendo guy the last few years so I’m a bit out of the loop.
I’ve done some reading but there are some things I still don’t understand so any help is appreciated.
1. I understand the S is digital only and I’m okay with that, but what I don’t understand is how backward compatibility works with the S. I’ve read you can play original Xbox and 360 titles on the S but that doesn’t make sense.
2. I understand Game Pass, but are previous gen games upscaled?
3. Lastly I was inside Walmart and I saw that every game in the case was labeled Xbox 1. I noticed a few added the label x/s. How do new games work the the x/s.
I want to make sure when I buy new games I get them for the S.
Thanks.
Hello.
Not all xbox and 360 games are backwards compatible. There is a seperate backwards compatible section on the xbox digital store which currently has 559 games in it.
I don’t think previous gen games are upscaled, unless they have been optimised for the X/S.
All xbox one games will work on the S. The games that have the X/S label have been optimised to work better on the X and S (Higher framerate, resolution etc.).
Hope this helps :-)
I think that covers all the high points.
Thank you.
The Xbox Series S is lower tier, Xbox Series X is the one to get.
S only has 1/3 of the teraflops the X has. A smaller hard drive, and does not game in true 4k because is only 1440p gaming.
So, you are getting much less of a console with the S.
The Xbox Series S is a powerful next-generation system that provides excellent performance at an affordable price. It offers 1440p smooth gameplay, ray tracing capability, and access to a wide library of titles via Xbox Game Pass. Please do not hesitate to ask additional questions!
I got my fiancee to trade in 2 of her old Xbox ones for a series S, she thanked me immediately when she saw the differences.
What DarthVengeant says isn’t inaccurate, but unless your wife has the highest demands for graphics, the Series S would be a perfect choice for you if you’re strapped for cash.
Honestly, I don’t see any serious performance issues with this console and it does what it needs to do for the value you get.
I got a series X day one, the X is better, but if I could only get a series S, I would still buy it.
They’re coming out with the new carbon black version of the console which looks better in my opinion.
Overall, I highly recommend the series S.
