      Good move.

      His statements were deplorable.

It doesn’t matter if he’s not around to defend himself…hatred is hatred, and this is another example of why folks shouldn’t put too much stock in celebs being role models.

Funny when did this become the communist republic of Nazifornia where shit people said 50 years ago as a free citizen is a fucking problem?

When seemingly racist individuals are immortalized and given honors they no longer deserve.

He had every right to say whatever shitty thing he wanted, but they also have every right to no longer acknowledge him because of it.

      Fuck ’em.

“… I don’t believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgment to irresponsible people,” he said in that interview nearly 50 years ago.

What he said directly before this might sound bigoted, keep in mind that there were no civil rights for non-whites for many years after it’s creation.  You can thank the NRA for combating the KKK, by trying to empower the blacks at the time, to own rifles and pistols, and defend their families, when many others would not.

Honestly I believe the words preceding the line you quoted would likely seem racist to nearly any open-minded person.  What he said about Native Americans was also incredibly dumb, accusing them of being “selfish” with their lands: “the Indians were selfishly trying to keep it for themselves.”  How absurd.  Was he joking?

Regardless, this is just about changing the name of an airport; any JW memorabilia will probably be relocated to a museum, hopefully with no damage or loss to history or art.

If the change helps people who have a chip on their shoulder feel a little better, all the better.

Amerindians did not really have a concept of land ownership like Europeans had and what we have today in the modern USA. Plus Amerindians conquered and enslaved rival tribes and territory by themselves before Westerners arrived to the New World.  In any case they weren’t all peaceful pacifists either wandering around with a spear and fig leaf.

“I don’t believe in giving authority and positions of leadership and judgment to irresponsible people,”

Whether or not Wayne’s comment was racist or not is one thing perhaps,  however I think overall he was  right looking at the Black Socialists/BLM/ Black Panthers ect running amok from the 1960’s to the present day . But White Liberals/Socialist are not any better though. Wayne used to be a Socialist during his college years then he became a Conservative later on.  Heston used to be a big time Liberal too, then he saw the light.

But this act is just trying to go after another powerful White figure and part of our American history.

I know there’s a song named after him, any buildings or monuments?  I can’t think of any.  I don’t recall Clint Eastwood saying anything objectionable, but he’s an outspoken conservative, so he’s guilty by existing.

Here’s an excerpt from an Esquire interview reported just before the last presidential election (2016):

Eastwood’s advice to America: “Just fucking get over it. It’s a sad time in history”.  Trump, the actor fumed, is “onto something, because secretly everybody’s getting tired of political correctness, kissing up. That’s the kiss-ass generation we’re in right now. We’re really in a pussy generation. Everybody’s walking on eggshells. We see people accusing people of being racist and all kinds of stuff,” Eastwood continued.

“When I grew up, those things weren’t called racist…when I did Gran Torino,” Eastwood told Esquire, “even my associate said, ‘This is a really good script, but it’s politically incorrect’. And I said, ‘Good. Let me read it tonight’. The next morning, I came in and I threw it on his desk and I said, ‘We’re starting this immediately’.”

A genuine, bona-fide backbone. Clint Eastwood is an endangered species, too few like him.

Fuck their feels. I dont give a fuck about that shit. Reality is that JW was one of the greatest actors of his era and destroying him over commonplace thinking of his era is pathetic.

I  hope nothing is destroyed, only relocated.   I’m not a fan, but I do appreciate his prolific contributions.

“Orange County Airport” was the original name of the airport; the proposal is to rename the airport the original name, once again — not after an activist or a “victim”,  just simply the original historical name.

There’s nothing here for me to take issue with.  No destruction of art or other memorabilia, the new name itself is historical and perfectly benign, no one is advocating burning effigies of JW, no digital streaming company is removing his movies from their library, and no one is revoking/recalling his academy awards — as far a I know?
