Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trailer Spreads Mayhem

Today, Nickelodeon released a trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem. The film’s co-writer, Seth Rogen, also revealed the cast. Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., Nicolas Cantu, and Brady Noon will voice the Turtles. Rogen and John Cena will voice Bebop and Rocksteady, Rose Byrne is Leatherhead, Giancarlo Esposito is Baxter Stockman, Ice Cube is Superfly, Jackie Chan will play Splinter, Hannibal Buress is Genghis Frog, Ayo Edebiri is April O’Neil, Paul Rudd is Mondo Gecko, and Maya Rudolph is Cynthia Utrom. Check out the trailer here:

And here’s the film’s synopsis:

“After years of being sheltered from the human world, the Turtle brothers set out to win the hearts of New Yorkers and be accepted as normal teenagers through heroic acts. Their new friend April O’Neil helps them take on a mysterious crime syndicate, but they soon get in over their heads when an army of mutants is unleashed upon them.”

This film is getting trashed online, and I agree about April. I don’t really care that they made her black, and in fact, the most recent TV cartoon did this too. But they made her fat and ugly, and I don’t love that. However, I like the relationships among the Turtles from what we see in this clip. I also like the animation style quite a bit; it’s dynamic, and I like the bright colors. I actually think the movie looks decent besides April, and she might be a good character even if I don’t love her appearance.

But what do you think? Sound off in the comments!

I wonder if April looks like that because she’s still figuring out who she is you know? The art style reminds me of the likes of Gabor Csupo’s work on shows like Rugrats and Wild Thornberrys as well as the style of Everett Peck whose style on Duckman and Jumanji kinda reminds you of Csupo’s style.
