Amazon Prime Picks Up Critical Role’s Mighty Nein

Amazon has signed a first-look deal with Critical Role and green-lit an adaptation of their second campaign, Mighty Nein. No release date is known yet, but Titmouse will be animating this series as well as The Legend of Vox Machina. Season 3 of Vox Machina has already been announced and is in production. Check out a statement from Vernon Sanders, head of global TV at Amazon Studios, below:

“With the success of our animated series ‘The Legend of Vox Machina,’ we are looking forward to continuing our relationship with Critical Role and expanding its universe with ‘Mighty Nein. Expanding these iconic franchises for our global Prime Video customers continues to be an ambitious and rewarding journey and we are eager to see where this new series takes us.”

And Travis Willingham, CEO of Critical Role:

“Critical Role’s livestream campaigns are the spark that lit the flame for our worldwide audience. Seeing the stories and characters from our first campaign come to life in ‘The Legend of Vox Machina’ was a dream realized, and we are absolutely buzzing with excitement to do it again with ‘Mighty Nein.’ But with today’s announcement, we’re confident that the stories we tell will keep expanding into realms of entertainment beyond what we can even imagine.”

I’m neither pumped nor opposed to this. I like The Legend of Vox Machina well enough, though I don’t love the show’s sense of humor. The series is clearly doing well, so I hope Amazon invests in better animation and special effects. It makes sense for Amazon to seek more content with Critical Role if it’s profitable. Their partnership has been better for the fantasy audience than Amazon’s own Wheel of Time or Rings of Power. That’s not saying much, but it’s something.
