Variety has shared Ewan McGregor’s comments from a panel at Göteborg Film Festival. In short, he was asked about a potential continuation of the Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series on Disney+. Check out his reply here:
“I would love to do the second season, but there’s no talk of it yet. There is a lot going on at Disney.”
He also went on to tell Variety that he wasn’t always going to do the Star Wars prequels:
“It wasn’t a done deal for me. I didn’t think it was at all who I was. I believed, at that point, I was a Danny Boyle actor. ‘The Beach’ was more important and I meant it, it wasn’t flippant. I did ask a lot of people for advice.”
“I am happy that I am this character for a lot of people, but when these films came out, they were so disliked. That was hard. The first one was panned and we still had to make another two! It was weird to be in a film that was hammered.”
I’m really glad about Obi-Wan Kenobi the series, personally. I feel like the only person on Earth who was really let down by the lack of ambition and stupid writing choices in that show. I think more of that particular story could only do more harm to Star Wars, if that’s possible at this point.
However, it’s sad he had such an unfortunate experience when the prequels were coming out. Of course, Jake Lloyd and Ahmad Best had bad experiences/treatment as well. I think they’re much more accepted now. For one thing, people who grew up with those films are adults now and showing them to their kids. The sequels also reminded people that wooden dialogue isn’t the worst thing ever to happen in film.
But what do you think? Let us know in the comments!
