James Mangold Finds Star Wars Co-Writer in Beau Willimon, Mandalorian Movie Gets a Release Date

Remember James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi film that was announced last year at Star Wars Celebration alongside the Rey movie and the Mandoverse movie? Well, a new co-writer is attached to the film in Beau Willimon, according to Deadline. Willimon previously co-wrote season 1 of Andor alongside Tony Gilroy and others, as well as created the acclaimed drama House of Cards. Dawn of the Jedi will take place 25,000 years before the Star Wars prequels and show the origins of the Jedi Order. The film doesn’t have a release date yet. Additionally, another Star Wars movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu, now has a release date of May 22nd, 2026.

I’m not looking forward to this movie at all. I don’t dislike James Mangold, and Willimon’s résumé speaks for itself, but I don’t particularly care about how the Jedi began. I also don’t trust anything from Star Wars unless I have a reason to get invested. I honestly think they’re just desperate to get something back into theaters and are throwing everything at us to see what sticks. I will see the movie at some point, and I’m not saying it can’t be good, but who really cares?

I don’t feel strongly about a release date being set for The Mandalorian and Grogu. I’m not opposed to the movie; I’m just nervous about everything Star Wars at this point, especially the non-animated stuff.

What do you think about Dawn of the Jedi or Willimon’s inclusion in the project? How about The Mandalorian and Grogu?  Let us know in the comments!

Bad Batch, Andor and Tales of the *insert faction*, are the only Star Wars projects I’m interested in anymore and two of those projects are reaching their conclusions soon.
