In an exclusive interview with GamesRadar+, the online companion to Total Film magazine, Stellan Skarsgård discussed the upcoming final season of the Disney+ Star Wars series Andor. Skarsgård played Luthen Rael, a ruthless recruiter for the burgeoning resistance. He teases a good season for fans and suggests a possible release window. Check out what Skarsgård had to say here:
“It’s the last season of it. It ends where Rogue One starts so it’s up to that point. I think it will be very good as already the first one was satisfying for me because it’s sort of Star Wars for grown-ups – it’s a more realistic and complicated society that they’re living in and the claustrophobia of the fascist regime is palpable. I think we have a good season ahead of us.”
“It will probably be out towards the end of the year or early next.”
Not a lot to go on, but it’s worth noting that Skarsgård was there to discuss his other current science fantasy behemoth, Dune. I want to go into the next season of this series as fresh as possible. Andor is the best thing to come out of Star Wars in the Disney era, and I really hope they can stick the landing. Part of me takes issue with the phrase “Star Wars for grown-ups,” as I think Star Wars was already for everyone and offered plenty to adults. But I get what he’s talking about, and it’s a valid observation. Andor is much bleaker and blunter than, say, Obi-Wan Kenobi, quality notwithstanding. I hope he’s right that season 2 will be out sometime in the next year. It’s one of the only Star Wars projects I’m looking forward to seeing.
But what do you think about Skarsgård’s comments, Andor, or anything else Star Wars? Sound off in the comments!
