Suicide Squad Video Game Leak Presents Disturbing Poison Ivy Scene

Another video game leak has comic book fans wondering what to make of an upcoming release. A clip from Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League reveals a plot point from the game, and it’s… strange. In the clip, the Squad discovers a reborn Poison Ivy (who died in Arkham Knight, the last game in the Arkham series, of which Kill the Justice League is a part), but she’s a child. Harley Quinn talks to the young Ivy, asking if she remembers her, and the dialogue becomes uncomfortable for an adult and a child. You can see the clip below, courtesy of NeedleMouse Productions:

I doubt Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will go too far in this direction, but it’s such a weird thing to do. Why even call it into question? I know Harley is Harley, but asking a child if she remembers a romantic relationship with her is creepy, as is having a child respond to an adult through pheromones. They could have either brought back Ivy as an adult or just not made the dialogue romantic in nature. Aside from this confounding decision, some are pointing out that a Harley/Ivy relationship doesn’t work in the Arkham universe because it was never established, with Harley previously only having eyes for the Joker. They’re correct (and this makes the need to add the romantic stuff to the Kid Ivy scene even more egregious), although I’d go even further: the Harley/Ivy romance never made sense anywhere. The entire point of Harley Quinn is that she’s completely devoted to the Joker; that’s why she took on her new name (which he gave her), dressed up like a harlequin, and turned to a life of crime. This is all predicated on her loving the Joker; if she ever moved on, Harlene Quinzel would cease to be Harley Quinn. There is a potentially good story in that; what would a normal woman who’d gone insane do if she ever got over her lunacy? Could she ever be normal again? Would she be able to forgive herself for the evil she’d done? Harley’s story is a tragedy, but they’ve been trying to morph her into some Z-snapping feminist icon and, in doing so, have betrayed her character. Kill the Justice League appears to be just the latest example of that.

But either way, maybe leave kids out of it.
