    @Maverick Good call on the trills. Anything that can hook and hold me is a win. It’s not easy. Also, just because a trailer is good doesn’t mean anything. The Gran Turismo trailer was lame and the movie was very good.

    In other news, Henry Cavill casted to play Connor in a new remake of Highlander!

    Check out the teaser trailer for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, an upcoming ten-episode series based on Legendary’s Monsterverse. Monarch: Legacy of Monsters stars Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Anders Holm, Joe Tippett, and Elisa Lasowski.

    Following the thunderous battle between Godzilla and the Titans that leveled San Francisco, and the shocking revelation that monsters are real, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” tracks two siblings following in their father’s footsteps to uncover their family’s connection to the secretive organization known as Monarch. Clues lead them into the world of monsters and ultimately down the rabbit hole to Army officer Lee Shaw (played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell), taking place in the 1950s and half a century later where Monarch is threatened by what Shaw knows. The dramatic saga – spanning three generations – reveals buried secrets and the ways that epic, earth-shattering events can reverberate through our lives.

    At least Henry can speak English unlike poor Christopher😂. As long as they keep to the original Queen soundtrack I’m fine with this. I don’t want Lizzo ANYWHERE NEAR that soundtrack😡!

    @comicsgate the CGI in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ trailer is on point. And let’s be honest fans don’t watch those films for any deep plot or side  character development — something that’s logical and supportive is good enough. As Gollum would say: “What we really wants is Monsters and Monsters Fightsis!”

    With respect to trailers in general, you’re right — they’re not always an accurate representation of the movie. I have a catalogue of trailers that I re-watch from time to time because they’re that good. The actual movies either sucked or were so disappointing I’ve never re-watched any of them.

    This is my favorite:

    @Maverick One regret I have is NOT seeing Kong V Godzilla in theaters. Found out later about the Hollow Earth stuff. The writing is actually getting better. Just a few interesting scenes can make me really want to watch something and the Godzilla/Kong franchise actually shows study improvement.

    @DragonLady
    Definitely not Lizzo. Brit pop and British Invasion rock is actually another interesting topic you bring up. Who could be the new Queen? I like Oasis. Nobody can be Mercury. He was one of a kind, but you bring up a good point that who can pull of rock anthems now? Dua Lipa did the Barbie soundtrack. Thanks for mentioning this. In Queen’s work, I forgot these songs.

    @comicsgate

    Dua Lipa isn’t too bad an artist and she’s popular over here. But you’re right though; no-one can do rock anthems anymore the way Queen could. Adam Lambert- their new-ish frontman- isn’t a bad replacement for Freddie but sadly, he can’t sing the high notes very well. They could probably do the new soundtrack but it would obviously be sounding very different with Adam’s singing instead of Freddie’s.

    @DragonLady After giving it careful thought, the name that came up was Dan Vasc. Would be amazing if the Brit Rock Anthem machine threw their support behind Dan Vasc, but it’s a ton of work being a a real artist. The Geeks on this site, for no reason, really got me into a Power Metal mood and some of their vocalists might be able to do it. GloryHammer or Kamelot might be able to pull it off. I don’t know the genre well enough though.

    The following is a show and not a movie. GnG covered it on the front page. I just saw a short ad for it and the short trailer was better than this one. What makes Patrick interesting is that he uses his dad’s last name instead of Kennedy, which is easier to pronounce. Also, that a lot of politicians of kids want to go into media instead of politics. If Patrick is successful, what might make for future interest is like a brother v brother sibling rivalry with Joseph. I think the emotions would be raw and real.

    Set in the diabolical world of The Boys, Gen V expands the universe to Godolkin University, the prestigious superhero-only college where students train to be the next generation of heroes. Beyond the typical college chaos of finding oneself and partying, these kids are facing explosive situations … literally.

    Here’s another trailer that’s much better than the movie, which is a pity considering its pedigree.

    Contrast that with the one for the 1979 film which by today’s standards is technically inferior but still managed to set the tone perfectly and the movie more than lived up to expectations…still gives me chills to this day.

    @Maverick

    ‘Iron Man 3’ and ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ had better trailers than the films.

    I almost walked out halfway through Iron Man 3 when the “villain” was revealed before I remembered that my dad was my ride home that afternoon😂. I only saw that a second time because I didn’t want to see ‘Star Trek: Into Darkness’ with my dad because I’m no Star Trek fan.

    ‘Age of Ultron’ I was angry because I was expecting a serious film and got a comic relief. And people wondered why I preferred ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ over that🙄

    #306393

    @DragonLady  – Totally agree. Age of Ultron really pissed me off – Excellent trailer, dog crap movie. The preview set up a cruel, sadistic A.I. villain. What we got wasn’t remotely close…and that’s an understatement.

    Now this is a Superhero movie trailer and film pairing done right. Honestly both are a little depressing but fitting – a good send off for a couple of beloved characters and the introduction of another.

    #306394

    @Maverick

    I didn’t think ‘Age of Ultron’ was too bad. I wouldn’t have gotten a physical copy on blue-ray if that was the case. It was the way they marketed it that angered me and so many other people. But yes, it was no ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’. Especially the director’s cut of that film. I got quite the backlash from some people on other sites asking me “Why are you still watching those horrible X-Men prequel films and not the Avengers films?!”🙄😂. Um, because at least the Sentinels were INTIMIDATING and TERRIFYING which is what I’d expect from an AI and NOT cracking jokes every five minutes like Ultron was doing! That was also why I preferred ‘Batman Vs Superman’ over ‘Captain America: Civil War’. At least Snyder made the hero vs hero fight serious unlike ‘Civil War’ despite me liking the Russo brothers as directors.

    Another one of those “trailer is much better than the movie” previews. The reason this one probably worked so well was that it had the audience guessing as to how they were going handle Paul Walker’s death. Would they replace him with someone else or (as Mia’s tears suggested) kill off his character?

    To be fair, they handled it well but with the exception of the first movie the films in this franchise are disposable.

    I like the cast. The trailer is just ok. The concept is good, but not sure. Normally, I avoid horror, but some of it is just so creative and low budget.

    In 1969, a young Jud Crandall dreams of escaping his hometown, until he discovers the malevolent secrets of what is buried in a cemetery. He confronts a haunting family legacy that forever connects him to the place and unites with his childhood friends as they face an ancient evil that has plagued Ludlow from its inception.

    Looks interesting,

    The problem with these sequels, re-makes, reboots, expanded universe media etc. is trying to top the uniqueness of the original…they almost always seem to be lacking something.

    The 1989 movie freaked the hell out of me — I still remember the ending as clear as day.  For the 2019 re-make they made several cosmetic changes which I suspect were done to keep things fresh but ultimately didn’t have the impact they were hoping for.

    #306486

    Agree. Freaked me out, too and I just don’t see it as having franchise legs, but they keep trying. Funny comment said that anything with Bloodlines in a title sequel has been bad. Mentioned one other word too but I forgot. Oh, it was Revelation, so any sequel with BloodLines or Revelation, the fans say has been kind of bad.

    You modified this thread to make it more about artistic stand alone trailers, which is an excellent topic, which is, the art of the trailer itself. I like to read plots and summaries of the synopsis of books and movies sometimes, and trailers are like that. It’s a good thing to ponder. Like, if an aspiring director made low budget trailers of different projects.

    As for Prometheus trailer and movie, believe it or not, a buddy of mine and I went to that movie and it was one of our favorite experiences. The reason is that I came across an article of the film afterwards and he is really into stuff like that, like he’s a fan of Erich Von Daniken books: https://www.henrymakow.com/prometheus_-_a_lesson_in_the_i.html The combination of having an esoteric and well written article as an addendum to the movie sparked a lot of conversation. I definitely did NOT like the following movie after it though, but it’s not easy to hit the ball every single time.

    @DragonLady
    OK, Thomas Winkler is the guy I am thinking of for The Highlander soundtrack. There will never be another Queen, but I’d like to see the opportunity go to a living, breathing singer. I think Henry Cavill would like this power metal band. Also, Angus McSix is a follow up to the singer’s previous character named Angus McFife. The reason Thomas Winkler would be good for the Highlander soundtrack is Connor MacLeod is going to be Henry, and Thomas Winkler would probably have a lot of fun with a fake character brother named Angus MacLeod. It is amusing that anyone dreams of being a Celtic fight, as they have fought it so many of the wars. Angus MacLeod would be awesome for a soundtrack. Would be a no-brainer to hand out some of those foam claymore MacLeod swords.
